Arborheight is a zone in The Waking Dream. It is said to be the oldest realm of the Dream, nurtured to life by Ysera herself. The Nightmare's onslaught has left it collapsing into the Ephemeral Sea. Traveling across this living canopy is aided by enormous branches extending from tree to tree. In the underbough, the primordial gods and monsters of an Azeroth long forgotten have returned.

History

Arborheight is almost entirely within the living canopy of a towering forest. From the treetops, branches snake from tree to tree, allowing unimpeded travel through the skies. Within the gnarled hollows of these enormous trunks lie sights that can only be found within the wondrous dream; blossoms the size of towers, carpets of gold-flecked moss and rivers that flow unimpeded through the air. Indeed, one feels as though they've been shrunk down in an enormous garden as bear-sized bumblebees and beetles meander through labyrinths of grass. In the higher boughs roost harpies and a myriad of other flying creatures. Aviana, Mistress of Birds, oversees this realm from G'hanir, but in her hubris she does not turn her eyes to the ground often.

Amidst the dark undergrowth, the Ephemeral Sea has begun to spread, collapsing the realm into oblivion. Terraces of living wood have been left to languish and ancient things have emerged to look at the world with jealous eyes. The Nightingales and their Drev ilk have returned. The southernmost sequoia has been carved into their nest, resembling a world pulled from the bottom of a lake. It's always visible on the horizon, surrounded by swarms of metal-winged birds.

To the northeast lie the domains of the Spring Court. Following the influence of the Wake and its mortal touch, the Spring Sidhe have constructed fortresses of beautiful greenery and floral accents. There, they wait out the end of the world, basking in newfound revelry.

Geography

(WIP)
Much of the zone of Arborheight is built on an enormous treetop canopy, with large "islands" of trees connected via branches, extending over the fog-filled gaps of the Ephemeral Sea. In between these tree "islands" one can drop to the precarious, darkened undergrowth.

Locations of Interest

  • G'hanir: This immense, twisting tree lords over Arborheight, branches filled with birds and flying creatures of all kinds. Here roosts Aviana, the patron Wild God of all winged beings.
  • Lukomorye: To the south lie the tangled bogs of Lukomorye, a world that looks as though its been pulled up from the bottom of a lake. The sky glimmers and shifts like the surface of water viewed from down below, as if the viewer is drowning. This warped, rotten landscape is where the Drev have risen from their forgotten places.
