Stonemason's Vengeance is an instance idea by Aeliren85 based on the return of the Defias Brotherhood.

Below the mines of Moonbrook, the Defias Brotherhood planned their revenge against Stormwind. The city, rebuilt by their hands as the Stonemasons' Guild, was beautiful, just as they were asked. But they weren't given the compensation they asked. Turned away, exiled, they became the Defias Brotherhood.

From the Deadmines below Moonbrook, they started to take over Westfall, running the inhabitants out. With gold and minerals coming from the mines of Elwynn, Westfall, Duskwood and even Redridge, they built a juggernaut. It was almost complete, but then the Brootherhood was brought to its knees. Assassins sent by Stormwind attacked and killed most members in the mines. However, VanCleef wasn't easy to kill. He already fled to the lower Deadmines, a section that wasn't completely explored, along with several members of the Brotherhood. One of his subordinates willingly stayed behind, and was acting kingpin for approximately half an hour before being killed and beheaded. Unknown to the Alliance party was that the real Edwin VanCleef had already escaped and that this was an imposter.

For years, the remaining Defias members dug tunnels beneath the earth. Operations were momentarily halted during the Cataclysm, but they continued to dig, eventually ending up in an abandoned barracks in Stormwind, destroyed during Deathwing's attack on the city.

In his haste to escape, Edwin forgot his daughter Vanessa in the ship's cabin, a thought that had haunted him for years. He had promised his deathly ill wife that he'd take care of her, and now he thought that she had died, or worse. Upon his return to the surface, he found out that she had indeed survived, and brought back the Defias under her to avenge his death. When he learned that she had been killed, VanCleef flew into a rage, vowing to avenge his daughter, and the deceased members of the Stonemasons who died in the foray in the Deadmines.

Through his contacts, he managed to secure financial backing from five members of the Stormwind House of Nobles, and recruited new members for his cause, many amongst them who had family in the Stonemasons. Having taken captive the ones responsible for the death of his daughter, for refusing to pay him and for killing the other Stonemasons, he has taken captive Horatio Laine, who was the one who found out about Vanassa and led her to her demise, and mind controlled him, forcing him and his assistants to fight their friends and allies and to watch the other prisoners die.
