Thane Korth'azz is one of the Four Horsemen of Naxxramas. He holds the power of flame,[2] being even able to call forth fiery meteors from the skies.[3] There is speculation that he fell to the Scourge after Uther the Lightbringer's death and might have been a member of the Knights of the Silver Hand. This is at least partially confirmed when Alexandros Mograine refers to Korth'azz as "one of Uther's men".[4]
Biography
He was once known as a fallen dwarf paladin named Orthas.
Ashbringer
Following the Third War, Thane Korth'azz witnessed the enslaving of Alexandros Mograine by Kel'Thuzad.[5] He later fought against the party Darion Mograine led into Naxxramas, trading blows (and insults) with Brannigan Thundermaul until the latter was slain by Sir Zeliek. He then struck Castillian in the back of the head and used his fire magic to free Highlord Mograine from Castillian's freezing spell. Thane Korth'azz was finally defeated when Darion struck him down with the [Corrupted Ashbringer].[6]
World of Warcraft
In Season of Discovery, Korth'azz appeared as a ghost named Orthas after a paladin adventurer killed the Slack-Jawed Ghoul near Darrowshire in the Eastern Plaguelands. Because he still had "unfinished business" before his soul could move on, he tasked the adventurer with finding his warhammer in Corin's Crossing, giving his gold tooth a rub,[7] and retrieving his clan's ancestral armor from an abomination's guts somewhere in the Plaguewood.[1] He eventually managed to convince the adventurer to help him perform a ritual to "free" his soul using a Rotting Dwarf Corpse and a [Necrotic Runestone].[8] In Stratholme, he announced that it was time for him to regain a proper form, and that Darion Mograine would never forgive him if he missed the party at Naxxramas. During the ritual, enraged spirits tried to stop him, but he eventually succeeded in returning as Thane Korth'azz and rode away, leaving a gift for the adventurer in compensation for the time and effort they provided.[9][10]
Along with his fellow horsemen, Thane Korth'azz stood in Naxxramas above Stratholme and oversaw the Military Quarter. They later fought the champions of the Alliance and Horde and the Argent Dawn assaulting the necropolis.[11]
Wrath of the Lich King
By the time of the war against the Lich King, it was revealed that Thane Korth'azz survived his encounter in the Eastern Plaguelands, or was reanimated, and subsequently returned as one of the Four Horsemen in the newly relocated Naxxramas floating above the Dragonblight. They eventually fell a second time under the attack of the adventurers.[12]

Trivia
- Korth'azz likely represents the "Pale Rider of Death", based on his light green color scheme.
- Korth'azz is the only dwarf in the Four Horsemen, and as such, is the smallest of the four.
- An unused NPC representing a modern version of Thane Korth'azz was added roughly at the same time as matching versions of the three other original Horsemen, all presumably meant to appear in World of Warcraft: Legion. He and these other NPCs didn't make it out of the Legion alpha stage.

It is possible that Korth'azz didn't meet his final death, just like Baron Rivendare.[13]
