Limits to secondary professions

I am not so sure about the "Secondary professions are not limited in the Starter Edition" statement. I was just playing the Starter Edition, and having a player level of 17, got to 100 in First Aid. However, a message appeared saying "Starter edition cap reached". Therefore, I would have to assume that at least First Aid is limited by the Starter Edition. It would be more logical to assume that other secondary professions are also limited, but I would have to try that out. Any more information about this?--Sega381 (talk) 01:16, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Merger

I have merged Starter Edition and this page - they both covered the same topic. For a while I was unwittingly editing both pages and wondering why my work from before was gone!--Pittsburghmuggle (talk) 05:12, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Limitations list

I just separated "party" and "guild" limitations into separate items since they are independent concepts - a person who has no interest in social events may still want to be aware that they cannot form parties on their own even for purely gameplay reasons. I see now that the Blizzard website lists them together in one bullet point, which is probably why they were combined here. However, I believe that a) that is a bad decision on Blizzard's part, and that presenting it as separate points more clearly communicates the limitations, and b) it is not our role to make exact duplicates of Blizzard publications, but rather to document all the information in as useful a form as possible. So I still think it's a good change. As I mentioned in the edit comment, it also allows clarification that parties are not entirely off-limits. - jerodast (talk) 21:59, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

I notice that the limitations can be roughly categorized as being about a1) limiting gameplay (e.g. level caps), a2) locking out gameplay (e.g. pet battles), b) locking social features (e.g. guilds), and c) preventing spam. We do not necessarily need to put an explicit point on these ideas, but since it would be useful to readers to see the common themes among the limitations, I will shortly re-order the bullet list so that related points are grouped together. This will also make notes like the italicized one about /yell-ing less weird, since clearly SEVERAL of the limitations are about anti-spam, not just that one. - jerodast (talk) 21:59, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
