Old version

The old version of Potion of Luck got renamed to  [Greater Potion of Luck] in patch 5.1 and as far as I can tell, it is not available to players despite it being listed on the official site. Just thought I'd make note of this here since I don't know where else to mention it. Alayea (talk / contrib) 04:26, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

For anyone who's interested, the main difference made by this change is that you can no longer have the buff active all of the time. Previously the potion had a 1 hour effect and 1 hour cooldown, allowing players to farm with the buff continuously active. The new potion only lasts for 20 minutes, but still has a 1 hour cooldown, meaning you can't have the buff active more than 1/3 of the time. The materials required have been kept proportionate; the new potion only requires 1  [Golden Lotus] instead of 3.
These changes can be considered to make it cheaper/easier to use for players who don't want to farm for at least an hour at a time, and means they won't waste half the effect by farming for say an hour and a half. However, it also prevents players from benefiting from the buff so often, or perhaps just forces them to break up their farming time while the effect is on cooldown.  [Greater Potion of Luck] appears not to be craftable, merely a way to distinguish between the new potions and the old ones. Since it remains in some ways superior, the Greater Potion was for a long time dominant on the AHs on my main's server; nobody wanted to have to buy the new version instead ;) -- Taohinton (talk) 16:16, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
