Presumably there is a minimum level requirement for entering a portal to Shattrath (in addition to the requirement that you must have TBC)? Otherwise, players below level 58 would be able to get to Outland... Kidburla 01:01, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Level 1s are in Shattrath all the time. The only level limit is on the Dark Portal. --k_d3 01:27, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

'portal trainer' redirect

Is there a way to redirect this to the second section so the external link to wowhead is obvious right away? Or is this a bad idea? User:Decibal/Sig 01:28, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Where it links currently is fine, imo. --Sky (t · c · w) 01:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Death Gate

Should the Death Knight ability [Death Gate] be in here?  Jormungand01 Classicon rogue.png (talk - contr) 21:13, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

No since only the Death Knights can use it and does not send you to a city.  Killerkat666 Classicon mage.png (talk - contr) 22:06 7 Janurary 2009 (UTC)

Contradiction (clarify please)

There's a contradiction here that needs to be resolved. One part of the article says this: "After casting, a portal will appear roughly 5 yards in front of the mage. ... The portal lasts for 1 minute." Later, it says this: "If creating a portal in hostile territory, the mage should wait until all members of the party have used the portal. If the mage clicks too soon, they run the risk of leaving someone behind." If the latter statement is true, the first should read: "... The portal lasts for 1 minute or until the mage who created it enters." If instead the first statement is accurate (the portal lasts for one minute, period), the second statement is false and should be dropped. Unfortunately, nothing in the article indicates which of these is the true statement and which is in error. Could someone who knows edit the article, or comment here with the info required to fix the error? Thanks. --Reality Engineer (talk) 20:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

I think what it is saying is that the mage should wait until all party members are through the portal before going themselves, for in the event that one minute transpires before all party members are able to enter the portal and the portal collapses, those who were unable to enter are stranded. If the mage waits behind for everyone, he can open another portal, allowing anyone who missed the first portal the opportunity to go through another one. That is how I have been reading it. I don't believe the portal closes when the mage enters. --User:Jpsblue/Sig 20:38, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Jaina Trivia

The Portal spell was discovered by Jaina Proudmoore for the first, and sometimes is named 'Mass Teleport'.

Grammar aside, I think the author of this statement is misinterpreting The Schools of Arcane Magic - Transmutation, which does not say that Jaina invented the Portal spell.--SWM2448 20:11, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

Level changes

IIRC, even back in SL the levels for each city portal were staggered. In Dragonflight now I'm at 24 and I only have Stormwind; most of the others haven't unlocked yet. So it looks like the numbers will have to be updated again I guess. Will update with more info as I get it. Techhead7890 Talk Contribs 23:55, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

Turns out it was user error - unlike many other spells portals still require you to go to a portal trainer. The only change needed is that Oribos portal unlocks at 58. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Techhead7890 (talk · contr).

Addition of an Infobox

I think having an infobox works well for this page, as it's concerning the line of mage portal spells and helps define the qualities of the ability between individual variants. However using the word "Portals", as the portal "keyring" does in-game, breaks the tooltip on pages that were relying on the singular form of the word when being linked, like Telemancer, that now reads: "A telemancer is a mage specialized in teleportation, aka [Portals] spells". Thoughts on possible solutions?

I'm partial to either changing the infobox to [Portal], or simply making amends to those impacted pages as needed, manually or through a bot.
