Revamped whole page for 4.0.1+ data.

Redid the page. However due to external links policy, I am unable to cite the link to the source, which is http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t29453-combat_ratings_level_85_cataclysm

I added the reference links. Was it the 'minimum 10 edits' rule you're referring to? --Grynd (talk) 07:13, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Yea it was. All good now! --Th15 (talk) 14:59, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Mana regen based enitrely on spirit.

-- There is note at the bottom of the page about there being a new formula in patch 4.0.1 for mana regen that is based entirely on Spirit. "Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Undocumented Changes - Mana regeneration now uses a new formula based entirely on Spirit." The formula listed further above contains Intellect as a part of the calculation. There is also a reference to the Elitist Jerks web page for combat ratings. It lists the formula listed on the wowpedia page (that contains Intellect as a part of the calculation). Can there be some type of clarification? Also, the link given in the note at the bottom of the page does not lead to the undocumented changes page for 4.0.1 (even though it is referring directly to it), the link goes to the main page for 4.0.1 patch notes. Also, both the documented and undocumented pages say nothing about a mana regen formula based on entirely on Spirit that I was able to locate. As I was not sure of what was going on, I made no changes. Eyrtha (talk) 02:12, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

On Patch 4.0.1, there's a link in the infobox at the side... Patch 4.0.1 (undocumented changes). Though there's nothing new there, it's just a link to this page. --Grynd (talk) 02:54, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
The link was a minor issue. Of greater concern to me is the formula currently given. For one, it does not match the formula given on in the first post of the Elitist Jerks current topic for Restoration druids in Cataclysm. When I use both formulas, neither of them produces the mana regen number shown on my character window in the game (they are off substantially). Since both of the given formulas use Intellect, and the note refers to a "new" formula using only Spirit, I was hoping someone knew what the "new" Spirit-only formula was, or if there was no Spirit-only formula at all. I tested all values on my resto druid and disc priest. The formulae and results here do match in-game values given in the in-game tooltips and they also match demonstrated results (achieved by timing how long it takes to regen to max in various conditions).--Th15 (talk) 01:42, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
With zero buffs my Intellect is 3739 and my Spirit is 2198. Using the formula given, "0.001 + Spirit * sqrt(Intel) * BASE_REGEN * 5 = Spirit Regen": 0.001 + 2198 * sqrt(3739) * 0.003345 * 5 = 2247.87. My displayed Mana Regen is 3179 (much higher). If I calculated it incorrectly, let me know. Eyrtha (talk) 01:44, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, the formula gives you your Spirit Regen. This is the additional regen you get outside of combat. Baseline mana regen (that you get all the time) is a separate component which is 5% of your base mana pool. This is explained in the article but I suppose it's unclear, it'd be good if you could reword it so that it's clear that there are two parts to your mana regen. --Th15 (talk) 05:24, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
You have stated that the Spirit Regen formula given is for out-of-combat mana regen. That was also my assumption. Then you stated that there is another "baseline mana regen (that you get all the time) that is a separate component which is 5% of your base mana pool." The article states that the "5% of base mana" is the in-combat mana regen. Also, the phrase "that you get all the time" seems to imply that there is a new rate of mana regen in effect all of the time. I thought there were only two available states: out-of-combat mana regen (from the Spirit Regen formula given) and in-combat mana regen (5% of base mana), and that they were mutually exclusive. Eyrtha (talk) 14:56, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
For most casters, that "baseline" regen will show up in the "Combat Regen" field in the character menu, so I stuck with blizzard's label for it--Th15 (talk) 05:22, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Does anyone know anything about the "new" Spirit-only mana regen from 4.0.1 that is mentioned on the article page? Or does that not exist? Eyrtha (talk) 14:57, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Yea. It's an inaccurate statement (for multiple reasons), but its what was in a blue post at one point during the cata preview. Can't find the source anymore since they broke all the links to the old forum.--Th15 (talk) 05:20, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
I don't believe it exists from any testing I have done. The formula to calculate "Mana Regen" like the field you will find in the armory is the one stated, "0.001 + Spirit * sqrt(Intel) * BASE_REGEN * 5 = Spirit Regen" but you need to add on top of that the 5% Base mana for your class, at 85 that would be...
Priest=1029
Druid=931
Paladin=1171
Shaman=1171
Mage=871
Warlock=1027
So using your figures it would be 0.001 + 2198 * sqrt(3739) * 0.003345 * 5 = 2247.87 + 931 = 3179 Elidion (talk) 17:58, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Mana regeneration clarification

BASE mana regen = 5% of base mana

SPIRIT mana regen = 0.001 + Spirit * sqrt(Intel) * BASE_REGEN * 5

Out of combat regen = BASE regen + SPIRIT regen

Combat regen = BASE regen + bonuses.

Ex.: Druid combat regen with [Meditation] = BASE regen + 0.5*SPIRIT regen
