Because Uldum, was a name found on documents, but nobody knew where it was until the Shattering.

The whole zone was lost. The city itself wasn't particularly unknown, but after escaping from it, it is forgotten until the end of the end of the quest chain. I don't know. Its proper names seems to be "the Lost City". Maybe the zone was intended to be more mysterious at one point.--SWM2448 17:05, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
