Despite rampant speculation to the contrary, there's nowhere near enough evidence to change it to unknown. He died from the plague and was incinerated by dragon fire, and all that was left was his shield. The only thing suggesting otherwise is a single line referring to the unspecified fate of an unnamed paladin that may or may not be Bolvar.
