The "tunnel to Ironforge"

I used my Pet and it seems that the pet inst effected by the Wall at all, and had my pet run up the hall and it ends in nothing-ness, and my pet fell off into blank space. just though id add that. --User:Keya

It's possible to get your pet into the Deeprun Tram area of Tinker Town from here, but the pet will likely get trapped and will dismiss once EotB wears off. --Gordal 15:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Here you can find an image about relations between the tunnel and Tinker Town in Ironforge. I think the tunnel, the gnome zone or both could be easily remodeled for allowing players to move though the two zones. Used external link, so i didn't break the wowwiki rules for images. link=<nowiki>Guild:Download (Runetotem EU)</nowiki> Eraclito ( Talk | Edits ) 20:15, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
This no longer appears to be possible, having tried it recently and ended up falling for hours of game time. I had to get friends to warlock summon me out.   VainaVainamoinenJust ask! What have I been up to? 02:05, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

I know people have been punished in the past for entering areas that aren't supposed to be accessible; would posting how to get to this area qualify as an exploit? --Aeleas 12:54, 11 Mar 2006 (EST)

Well, considering you can just walk there, I highly doubt Blizzard would punish anybody for it. It's pretty boring there anyway. -- Nils 14:08, 26 May 2006 (EDT)
While at the airstrip, a guild-mate was questioned by a mod and told not to go back there, but no actual punishment was administered. I've been there several times to no ill effect. As it is rather easy for a character of any level to get there with no special "tricks", I don't think this should be considered an "exploit". If Blizzard really wanted to keep people out, they could easily have added an obstacle to prevent access. --Mortalwombat 20:57, 8/8/06 (EDT)
I have been to this area on several occasions. I have never gotten any type of warning from a GM. I was even (believe it or not) able to jump all the way down to the lowest ledge on the gates of IF. I let out a yell to all. People were perplexed about how I got there, but no GM said anything. I figure if any GM is monitoring the channels and cared, they would have told me to cease and desist immediately. --Kungfurabbit 00:37, 22 February 2007 (EST)
I farm Linen Cloth down there on a regular basis and haven't had any run-ins with staff yet. Time will tell though, I suppose. Faiyeir 16:07, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
I'v been up their on many occasions, and i believe that the tunnel leads to a different level of Ironforge, because there's something like 3 or 4 in the RPG, and they never implemented the other levels so the tunnel leads no where. McfargerQuel'Dorei-US 17:17, 10 June 2008 (CST)
In the WoW alpha, there was a second level to the Commons, Military Ward, and Mystic Ward.--SWM2448 21:26, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
If Blizzard really, REALLY wanted to keep people out of there, they could just add a level 200 elite Yeti with a huge aggro range that would spawn whenever players enter the area and chase down any trespassers and one-shot them. What Blizzard has proven to have a problem with in the past, however, is people that offer to sell tours of the airport for gold, or spamming IF with offers to take people up there. There's nothing in the TOS that says you can't go where they don't want you to go, only that you cannot use such unintended access for extra income, or gaining an advantage over other players. Neither really seems to fit that if all you do is go there for a picnic once in a while. If you go on horde, and continuously go there and kill the NPCs, I would imagine you'd get an earful. Can only imagine the LocalDefense channel going nuts once you start killing everything there... --Metalbunny (talk) 09:03, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm against

/* If airfield will be ever introducted, Hall of Thanes may be shortcut. There is even non-usable gate to Hall of Thanes in airfield. */

because their levels are distant several yards. The airport tunnel reaches the Deeprun Tram ceiling, when the Hall of Thanes is under the lava pools all around the town. Can we remove this speculation? < Download > Eraclito ( Talk | Edits ) 17:06, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

So I'm going to throw this out there, that there is actually a second tunnel that's unfinished and would've led to Ironforge. From the airstrip go north, hop down the waterfall until you reach a small lake. If you turn around and look towards the waterfall, on the left side you'll find the entrance for a tunnel... that isn't blocked... which you can walk up and jump through the world. I found this about 4 years ago when I first started playing, but at the time I didn't think anyone would be interested. There are also several houses/buildings nearby and a road that leads you to an empty (mostly untextured) valley. Which as you move down the road, on the left you'll notice Menethil Harbor is fairly close and that the terrain looks as though it could easily be changed to accommodate a road leading to it. I get the feeling that back in alpha the mountains were supposed to be more open and contain quests, npc camps, etc. But when they decided to cut Ironforge down to just two levels, they scrapped the mountains and just closed off the entire area. War Effort ?

Well, I changed the part about the War Effort quests since they exist and it is only a typo.. the point about the fact that they would have been planned to be at the airfield is of course and as precised only a supposition. --Adys 10:41, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

The burning crusade

If you think of it this place would be the perfect where the gyrocopters would be sold if they were made flying mounts in the upcoming expansion. Only time will tell -- Hefaistus 28/8/06

Doesn't seem like it, now that engineers can make "flying machines".Xlel 20:11, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Move

suggested move to "Dun Morogh airfield" because the quest description is "airfield in Dun Morogh".

Getting there

Why was the the getting there part remoed it was exploit freeUtain 08:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Presumably because getting there, while technically possible without exploits, isn't an intended part of the game. Sort of like going to Mt. Hyjal or the dancing troll village in Darkshore. -- Dark T Zeratul 09:00, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Although the images are allowed because one can get here without exploiting.Baggins 20:30, 9 January 2008 (EST)
It seems that the means to get there was at one time posted, but the WoWWiki personnel thought it prudent to take it down. Respecting those wishes, I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me how to do it by contacting me at my WoWWiki page, and then exchanging email, or something of the sort. Thanks! Screenshots...

I've some screenshots of the IF airport, and some of them cover things that I see no pictures of here:

f.ex:

  • The trolls
  • The pet trainer
  • The elite gnomes
  • The dwarfs fighting against the trolls

If I upload them, is it illegal? If not I'll upload them. Hewbie (talk) 13:36, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

It's me again... Just wondering of the screenshots. Is really Mount Ironforge a part of the IF airport? I thought it was somewhere else in Dun Morogh. Hewbie (talk) 13:36, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
They are close.--SWM2448 20:18, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Is it illegal to upload thos pictures? Hewbie (talk) 12:09, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
No. It is fine if they are of finished places you can see while flying, and require no exploits to see. The pics can be taken on land, but not if that is the only way to see what they are of.--SWM2448 18:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Okey, now I've uploaded some of them. Sorry for poor quality, I'll guess my E-mail compressed them a bit.
(I had to E-mail them over to another PC.)
BTW: I'm I doing this right? =) Hewbie (talk) 13:45, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Flying over the airfield, I have pointed my mouse as quick as I could at the signposts and they have sayings on them like "Over here" or "Over there" if I remember. I am guessing the tunnels they eventually point to down the roads are just small caves if you were able to get up there and look and go nowhere. Atlas

The World of Warcraft Atlas calls this place 'Airstrip'.--SWM2448 20:53, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

future expansion? [speculation]

I don't know if we're allowed to talk about this kind of thing here (i'm new) but I was thinking: maybe it was once an addition to dun morogh but was then scrapped because at some point it will be used as the alliance staging area for an outer space expansion? just think, if we were to go to the great dark, how would we get there? gnomish spacecrafts?! again this is pure speculation and i don't know if that's what this is for but I thought I'd throw it out there. Seacow42 (talk) 19:58, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Reason of existence

I think it is there because it was to be the Gnome lvl 1-6 area seeing as the size and Mobs in the area. Then again there is a pet trainer so both Dwarves and Gnomes might have both started there even from the start or GNOME HUNTERS!!! might have been an idea. Another reason of this theroy is that Coldridge juts out weirdly. The a few ideas that might conflict my idea is that there is a fight node, the wetlands cliff and tunnel to IF. Anyone agree? - User:Rota6446, Tankpalipwn 35 pali, 3-14-09 5:44 pm

I think the "Coldridge Valley for gnomes" was supposed to be to the west of Gnomeregan (big, empty space?) or westish of Coldridge. --Super Bhaal (talk) 12:17, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Racetrack reference?

I finally managed to go there today, for the first time ever after playing wow for over 2 years. But with all the speculation on here about the purpose of the place, I actually wonder has anyone ever tried actually talking to the people there? In all the videos on YouTube I've watched of people going there, I've never seen anyone talk to any of the NPCs besides the guards. I decided to talk to all the NPCs there, one by one, and was actually surprised. If you talk to the Ironforge Guards up there, they all have the new directions script introduced with WotLK, but the Don Morogh guards still have the original script that don't really give directions to anything. Now more importantly: If you talk to the gnome engineers, they talk about modifying their race car and beating the goblins. Now this very much smells like the Mirage Racetrack in the Shimmering Flats (except none of the gnomes there say the exact same lines that I recall). But while one could speculate that it comes from recycling models, the gnomes at the airfield are different models than the ones at the racetrack; cleaner, and differently dressed.

So to the thing I was wondering: Given the sheer size of this place, and the rather sloppy job done making it (buildings are placed above ground level, making them hard to enter, several of the airplanes are placed below ground level, placing them inside the ground) I was honestly wondering if the entire racetrack, in a simpler form than how it sits now, was originally placed here, and then moved to the flats during early testing. And then to fill the sudden empty space they hastily stuck together this airfield.

Also in the south pass, between Loch Modan and Don Morogh, between the two gates, there is what looks like used to be a path, leading off to the west, in the direction of the airport. it sorta ends abruptly in trees and mountains, and makes me actually wonder if there was originally intended to be another tunnel there leading up to the airport. That whole corner seems exceptionally big for being the way it is now. It screems that something is missing.

But until Blizzard figures out what to do with this airport, as well as several other undefined zones in Eastern Kingdoms, flying in Azeroth will never be permitted. --Metalbunny (talk) 09:04, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
