Talithar Swiftwind was a blood elf mage in the service of the Horde. Following the Third War, Talithar and his wife, Vyrin Swiftwind, became estranged: Talithar opted to heed the teachings of Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider in the name of his people's well-being, while Vyrin chose to retain her integrity. Their wedding rings remained in Talithar's possession, who never stopped loving his wife despite their parting; Vyrin, in turn, retained a longing for her husband, though also anger at what he had chosen to do.

Talithar went on to serve the Horde in Northrend, eventually coming to staff the warship Warchief's Fist. There, he met Chen Stormstout, though the two did not get off to the best start. Talithar was later ordered to guard a captured dwarf from Loch Modan named Baenan, who stumbled upon that Talithar somehow knew Vyrin. Vyrin had eventually moved to Farstrider Lodge and befriended Baenan and his sister Trialin, often speaking about high elf/blood elf relations and her unnamed husband. Baenan spitefully told him that Vyrin hated the blood elves and all they stood for. Enraged, Talithar physically threatened Baenan with a ferocity that astounded even the dwarf, though relented and broke down into tears, throwing the rings at the dwarf's feet and revealing that he was Vyrin's husband.

Later, Chen returned to break the dwarf out of his captivity, and Talithar did not attempt to intervene. Baenar apologized for what he had said and informed him that Vyrin still misses him dearly. Talithar asked the dwarf to give the rings back to his wife and tell her that he had never stopped loving her. Baenan promised to do so.

Talithar reappeared to assist Chen and Baenan in their escape from the warship, and was confronted by Karrig, furious that Talithar had betrayed his duty. Talithar reiterated his proud loyalty to the Horde, though also said that the Horde does not claim all of it. He detonated all the gunpowder ammunition for the ship's cannons in the munitions hold with his fire-based magic, giving Chen and Baenan a chance to flee in the ensuing chaos. Talithar is presumed dead in the explosion's aftermath.

Baenan, having survived his ordeal and returned to safety (with the Swiftwinds' rings intact), resolved also to inform Vyrin that her husband died a hero.[1]
