Strax was assigned to Ziya's plundersquad, which was tasked to raid Pandaren treasuries, temples, and armories for valuables and weapons to fuel the Horde war machine. Against Ziya's orders, he tried to rob a lone pandaren wanderer, who turned out to be a member of the Shado-pan. It's implied that the monk ended up killing him during the confrontation.
