Stefan was the nephew of Captain Renee Lauer and a member of the Scarlet Crusade. He participated in a raid, where Rinn Firecaster and Jillian Grell were murdered by his aunt. He kept questioning his aunt's and the Crusade's motives. Once he was practicing with Renee and once again questioned the Crusade's mission. Renee became enraged and overpowered him, but stopped her sword right beside his neck. Her angry expression became a smile, and she assured him that their cause is righteous.
He managed to rescue his aunt when she had been captured by Barnabas Grell and Reynah Firecaster. After the rescue, Renee wanted to make an example of her captors, and it was then that Stefan heard their reasons for capturing his aunt; they wanted revenge for her killing of their family. During the same conversation, he also found out that the undead, blood elves, and humans weren't that different at all. He was shocked when the elf and Forsaken were executed by the orders of Renee. A few moments later, the camp was attacked by the Forsaken led by Sylvanas Windrunner and Varimathras, and he was killed alongside his aunt during the attack. With his final breath, he spoke of the wrongs of the Crusade.[1]
