The current version can be purchased by rogues for 2 from Smudge Thunderwood <Poison Supplies> in the Hillsbrad Foothills and the Hall of Shadows. The original version has a chance to be looted from lockboxes.

The subject of this section was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 4.0.3a but is present in Classic Era.

Original version

After a very long absence from the game, this version of the recipe was re-added in patch 10.1.7 and has a chance to be looted from classic lockboxes. It can also be learned by any character with sufficient skill in Classic cooking.

The subject of this section has been removed from World of Warcraft.

Quest reward copies of this recipe earned by rogues before patch 1.3.0 were not Bind on Pickup, and any that remain unused are still transferable to another character.

In the original quest, learning to make Thistle Tea was offered as a reward to anyone that could cook, not just rogues. Non-rogue characters at some point after patch 1.3.0 had the recipe removed from their cooking list.

• Patch 10.1.7 (2023-09-05): Undocumented change: The original non-BoP version has been re-added.
  
• Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Undocumented change: The undocumented change in patch 6.0.2 has been reverted.
  
• Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Undocumented change: Original non-BoP version has been deprecated.
  
• Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): No longer a quest reward and can only be sold by the vendor.
  
• Patch 1.3.0 (2005-03-07):
  • Smudge Thunderbrew in Ravenholdt Manor now sells the recipe for Thistle Tea to those rogues who completed the quest and inadvertently destroyed their recipes.
  • This item now binds on pickup.
