Prison of Yogg-Saron
The Prison of Yogg-Saron is a subzone of Ulduar and home to the instance's penultimate boss, Yogg-Saron. It is unlocked by defeating all five keeper bosses, then accessed by traveling down the Descent into Madness. It can also be seen from above in the Observation Ring.
Lore
Located beneath the titan facility of Ulduar, this monolithic prison was built around the Old God Yogg-Saron long ago by the titanic keepers and titan-forged, and a powerful enchantment was placed on it to neutralize the creature's evil. Yogg-Saron and its forces had battled fiercely to repel the titan-forged, but were ultimately pacified.[1]
From its prison, Yogg-Saron attempted to extend its corrupting evil to the areas around it. It was initially successful at influencing the keeper Loken through its black blood, which runs throughout the continent of Northrend.[2] Cho'gall and the Twilight's Hammer later infiltrated Ulduar and weakened Yogg-Saron's chains, allowing it to strengthen its influence on the keepers assigned to it.[2] It also managed to affect the world tree Vordrassil, leading to the creation of the Emerald Nightmare, after the tree's roots grew too close to the prison.[3]
During the war against the Lich King, adventurers of the Alliance and Horde, with some help from Brann Bronzebeard, entered the prison and defeated Yogg-Saron.[2]
In Hearthstone
- The Prison of Yogg-Saron appears as a legendary location in the TITANS expansion. Its flavor text reads: ""We've finally captured Yogg-Saron! How should we keep him contained?" "How about... an open pit... right below us... with four loose chains?" "PERFECT!""

[15-30G3] Ursoc, the Bear God: Spirit of Ursoc says: I thank you all. The druids of old were wise to tear down Vordrassil, for its roots seep deep into the dwelling of an ancient evil. You know their kind as old gods. Beware Yogg-Saron, the beast with a thousand maws. His evil extends beyond Vordrassil's roots.
