Notes on the Centaur Riverbed

<This book is a compilation of notes written in Roska's handwriting. The pages are predictably dirt smudged.

There are several sections earmarked.>

The banks of the river collect artifacts, but they also collect sediment. Lots of soft, spongy silt washes up here, burying anything that winds up on the shore.

Not only that, but the layers and layers of silt and buried plant matter, combined with the chill of the glacier water, means that buried stuff won't decay like it usually does.

It's possible then to unearth what would ordinarily rot away like fabric, wood, or even ancient bodies from the banks.

The local centaur call this part of the riverbed the treasury of the river for how often folks will find stuff in it.

I'd guess the artifacts are being washed here from upstream in the mountains. That explains the grab-bag of finds like tools, weapons, and centaur votive statues from all eras. Some of the richest finds have been from very early history, and I'm hoping we see more of that here.

Centaur kids come here digging for arrowheads and coins, but our excavation was the first substantial one the folks up at Maruukai gave the go-ahead to.

We're the real deal, here at the archives!

Our find was indeed a rare bog body! Sometimes, the bodies of folks who died long ago will be perfectly preserved under the earth when all the normal forces that decompose cannot reach them.

Usually it happens in bogs, but it can happen anywhere.

After consulting the centaur, we determined that she was part of an ancient caravan that was lost in the mountains between the Azure Span and the Ohn'ahran Plains. The river must have washed her and her hunting party here where she's stayed for centuries.

After noting the make of her armor, Tigari Khan at last put her to rest.
