Nolkai is likely to have been one of the night elf citizens of Loreth'Aran in Bloodmyst Isle. Although Nolkai is not explicitly identified as a night elf, evidence such as a reference to Elune on his ring, and the geographic location of his old home, tend to lend that interpretation.

He was witness to an invasion or attack upon his homeland, which would likely have been the black dragonflight's attack on Loreth'Aran. At one stage during this attack, he and a number of other survivors retreated east into a temple. In an attempt to preserve the memory of what happened, Nolkai buried all that remained of his possessions near the temple in a box. The ruins of this temple now form what little remains of Loreth'Aran.

Nolkai's possessions are among the few remaining first-hand accounts of this battle, alongside what can be gleaned from conversation with the ghost of Prince Toreth. One of Nolkai's possessions, a ring, indicates that he had a lover, although his or her name remains unknown.
