The Mother is a being associated with the mermaids of Kul Tiran folklore. Each mermaid was allotted a certain amount of the Mother's power over rocks and water from birth, and the moment that power got used up they turned into bubbles and died. The mermaid Halia told the tidesage Ery that if she waited until dawn, slit her feet from the toes to the heels until the water turned red with her blood, and then walked into the water, the Mother would take pity on her by making her legs fall off and replace them with a mermaid's tail. This later also proved true (according to the folktale, at least) when Halia slit the nearly-dead Ery's feet open, jumped into Boralus Harbor with her, and surfaced with her transformed into a mermaid.

Despite the similar names, the Mother seems to be distinct from the Tidemother that the Kul Tirans worship; when Halia begged Ery to slit her feet the first time, Ery refused, citing the fact that she had sworn herself to the Tidemother.[1] Beyond this, nothing is known about who or what the Mother is. She and the mermaids may not even be real at all, but just a Kul Tiran legend.
