The term Junker Wastes appears in previews of Mechagon Island,[1][2] representing the scrapyard territories of the Rustbolt Resistance, probably aligning to the Heaps and the town of Rustbolt. The Mechagon mechagnomes of the resistance were also previously referred to as junker gnomes by Blizzard.[1][3]
Junker Cannon, Junker Harvester, Junker Jeep, Junker Trike, Junker Turret, and Lil Junker Town all exist in the game files but were never added.
Connections to other Blizzard media
- The Junkers are a faction residing in the Australian Outback from the Overwatch franchise.
- The Junker gangs exist in the lore of the StarCraft franchise, most associated with a skin set given out as promotional items for BlizzCon 2017, where Battle for Azeroth was revealed.
- The "Warhead Junction" map from Heroes of the Storm seems to be related to the Junker aesthetics, even beyond the canonical location of Deadman's Port.
