I Got What Yule Need
“Compassion and courage know no race, my friend. You may be 'just a goblin,' but you've made Fala and me believe again in the true spirit of Winter Veil.”
I Got What Yule Need is the fourth story in Warcraft: Legends Volume 3, written by Christie Golden with art by Carlos Olivares.
Description
From acclaimed writer Christie Golden comes the tale of a down-on-his-luck goblin named Krizz looking for a way to make some easy coin... even if that means playing Greatfather Winter. But his holiday sneer is unexpectedly turned into holiday cheer when he becomes the unlikely hero for a little gnome girl...
Plot
Wulmort Jinglepocket introduces the audience to the program Smokywood Storytime and the special Winter Veil episode "A Very Smokywood Winter Veil".
In this story within a story, the goblin Krizz is banished from Booty Bay by his employer Baron Revilgaz for betraying a client's confidence. He fails to find employment in other goblin towns until a woman in Everlook tells him of Smokywood Pastures' seasonal work in Ironforge. Krizz's new job goes well until Winter Veil Eve, when the actor playing Greatfather Winter passes out drunk, and Krizz is forced to take his place listening to children's Winter Veil wishes for the rest of the night. He is caught off-guard when a gnome girl, Fala Fizzlesprocket, says that her wish is for "Greatfather Winter" to help bring home her missing father, the engineer Fritz Fizzlesprocket. Krizz reluctantly promises to do so, even though he thinks he cannot help her.
At the end of his shift, Krizz goes to file a report on the missing engineer but is accosted by a Dark Iron dwarf, who mistakes him for the regular Greatfather Winter actor and cryptically speaks of a plan that will take place on the Dun Morogh Airfield at midnight. Fala overhears the conversation and tells Krizz that the same dwarf visited her father before he went missing and gave him a job he didn't want to do. Krizz realizes that the Dark Irons have kidnapped Fritz and forced him to build something, and decides to help Fala after all. They fly to the Airfield on Metzen the Reindeer and find the area taken over by Dark Irons, who are holding the pilots and Fritz captive next to a giant robot in a Greatfather Winter costume.
Krizz, Metzen, and Fala (using Metzen's reindeer dust) defeat the Dark Irons and free the captives. Fritz explains that the Dark Irons forced him to build the robot and that the regular Greatfather Winter actor was supposed to bring it to Ironforge on Winter Veil Eve to collect treasures from the Explorers' League Library and the Royal Treasury, which the Dark Irons had stolen and disguised as Winter Veil presents. Having foiled the Dark Irons' plan and reunited Fala and her father, Krizz and Metzen leave together. Krizz reveals that he got fired from his last job for saving an innocent family from being killed, and that, just the same, he couldn't refuse to help Fala and her father.
Fala catches up with Krizz and reveals that she knew all along he wasn't the real Greatfather Winter. Fritz thanks Krizz for making the Fizzlesprockets regain their belief in the "true spirit of Winter Veil", and invites him to join them at Winter Veil Eve dinner. On Winter Veil morning, the stolen presents are returned, the criminal dwarves are arrested, and Krizz—once again playing Greatfather Winter—celebrates the holiday with Smokywood Pastures and his new Fizzlesprocket friends. Fritz's robot places the star atop the Winter Veil tree, and everyone lives happily ever after.
Wulmort rounds off the Smokywood Storytime episode and grouchily leaves the studio, relieved that the holiday will soon be over. Meanwhile, families and friends across Azeroth gather to celebrate Winter Veil. As Wulmort walks home alone through the winter night, he fails to notice the blowing snow behind him coalescing into the form of a huge, smiling, bearded figure.

Notes
The story was Golden's first manga script, which she wrote after being contacted by Richard Knaak and invited to write for Legends. The story's title is a pun on "I got what you need", a line spoken by goblin vendor NPCs in World of Warcraft. Golden commented regarding the title: "It's a groaner. But that's why it's fun!"[1]
