Gimble "Sprocket" Sprysprocket is a young leper gnome engineer with green eyes, dark-green hair, and skin as if glowing bright green. He is inside a metal suit that he built. It holds the radiation, protecting him and everyone around him. He refers to himself as clever and brilliant.
He built the Steamwhistle and wanted to race in the Boat Race at the Fizzle & Pozzik's Speedbarge following the Cataclysm. He teamed up with Gazlowe and told him that his cousin Razzle was coming to be their pilot. As he was running late, Gimble tried trial laps around the Speedbarge. At that moment, Gazlowe got visitors in the form of young travelers who needed help with salvaging. When Gimble finished the lap and emerged from the speedboat with his suit, Aramar and his friends were first surprised or even terrified of him, with Taryndrella not being able to stand by him. Gazlowe started arguing with Sprocket that it took him a long time to finish the race due to his weight. Sprocket tried to convince Gazlowe he would cut the weight of the suit or even make modifications, but Gazlowe had enough of his lies and doubted Razzle was coming. As they argued, Aram instead volunteered to be the pilot, which shocked Sprocket. Gazlowe considered it, weighed Aram, and was immediately for it, whereas Sprocket was against it since the boy didn't know how to pilot. Gazlowe convinced the leper gnome by betting on whether he could train him, and Gimble took it.[1]
A second too late he realized he was manipulated into training Aram by the bet, but considering he did lie about contacting Razzle and admitted that his suit was too heavy, he wouldn't further make up lies about Aram's incompetence to Gazlowe, so he decided to make the boy a winning pilot in 5 days, but he wouldn't go easy. When they started the next morning, Aram was eager to use the Steamwhistle, but Sprocket first showed him its blueprints, and Aram found it interesting. That didn't please Sprocket, and he found himself disappointed and mildly annoyed, which multiplied when Gazlowe interrupted them and forced them to start racing. When Gimble saw Aram inside and doing laps, he immediately recognized how it floated and thought it might work. When the travelers moved to Gazlowe's yacht due to Gordok's Elite looking for them, Sprocket went with them and continued to train Aram and update Gazlowe on the progress. The race required to officially register, so Gimble, Gazlowe, and Aram returned to the Speedbarge for registration to Fizzle and Pozzik. When their turn came and registered, Fizzle interrupted and warned Gimble that to register as an engineer, he needed to be a member in good standing of MEGA, pointing to him being a leper gnome. Gimble insisted he was one and showed Fizzle his membership card, which Fizzle acknowledged.
When the time came to fulfill Aram and Gazlowe's deal, Sprocket made adjustments to his suit and assisted them with their salvage operation in the Shimmering Deep. Led by Murky to the exact spot on the bottom of the water, Gimble at one point noticed Aram's compass with a crystal needle and tried to touch it with his mechanical arm, but Murky slapped it. When they were working on releasing Aram's treasure, a whale shark suddenly appeared and grabbed Aram. Gimble and others rushed to help him. The leper gnome used his suit to pound on the shark's snout, which helped as the shark released Aram and swam away. They returned to their treasure and finally managed to release it.
On the day of the race, Sprocket helped Aram inside the Steamwhistle. Aram asked him if he would wish him lock, to which Gimble responded he didn't need luck since he had his boat. He then watched the race, and at one point got nervous and wondered if he would kill the boy if he lost the race. This, however, was unnecessary as Aram managed to win the race. When the race and victory lap finished, Throgg, leader of the ogres following Aram, approached the Steamwhistle and stabbed it, and Gimble responded with a shout in horror.[2] The boat wasn't destroyed by that, however, and what followed was a reward to the engineer of the Steamwhistle for the win.[3]
Afterward, Gimble accompanied Gazlowe to Gadgetzan. The goblin told him the Hidden were here and asked him to spy the desert with his telescopic lens for Aram and his friends. When he found them, he told them about the danger in the city. Despite the fact that Aram was suited for the Steamwhistle, was interested in the schematics, and even won the race and money, something rubbed Sprocket about him the wrong way. Nevertheless, he left the travelers in hiding and returned to Gazlowe and waited with him for Sprinkle who safely got the kids to Gadgetzan.[4]
After their adventure in the city, the travelers joined Gimble and Gazlowe on the Cloudkicker as they headed to their next MEGA event in the Charred Vale in the Stonetalon Mountains. As they went, Sprocket briefly argued with Gazlowe about the speed of the zeppelin.[5] When they arrived, Sprocket waved farewell to the travelers[6] and participated in the MEGA event with the DLVR-E drones that he created and won. As he was relaxing and enjoying his prize, he saw an owl come toward Gazlowe. It perched atop the trophy and tried to shoo it away. The owl was carrying a letter from Makasa Flintwill, requesting aid as the travelers got in real trouble, with Aram being captured in Outland. Sprocket chimed in that since the letter mentioned a Diamond Blade, the rescue mission would give them profit, to which Gazlowe agreed.[7]
As such, the Cloudkicker took the crew to Thal'darah Overlook to pick up the kids, and from there they headed to the Redridge Mountains. They all agreed to hide the zeppelin in the mountains, and Sprocket gave Makasa flares in order to alert them should they needed them.[8] After the travelers found what they needed in the region, Makasa and her friends remembered the engineers speaking about the DLVR-E drones, that they could use to send messages to their allies and friends to come with them to Hellfire Peninsula and save Aramar.[9] When Gazlowe heard of their plan in Outland, he considered dropping out of it, but Sprocket thought of it and convinced Gazlowe to continue aiding Makasa by mentioning benefits and fortune that they would get if the travelers and her allies succeeded in their quest. Gazlowe agreed, and Sprocket sent his drones back to Kalimdor, thinking he would get famous. Afterward, Sprocket helped board Makasa's army onto the Cloudkicker.[10] The drones made it successfully, and the Cloudkicker delivered Makasa and her companions to the Dark Portal valley in the Blasted Lands, after which the zeppelin returned to Gadgetzan.[11]
Notes
- Gazlowe at one point called him Sprock.[1]
- He approaches his inventions by giving measured thought to serious questions, with one careful decision and one methodical experiment at a time.[10]
