Galleons are an ancient goblin currency, consisting of small gold coins stamped with the grinning face of the first trade prince. Though once beloved, the currency was at some point lost to time and newer forms of barter, with surviving galleons becoming known as extremely rare and priceless treasures.

Klaxz Boompowder spent years diving in underwater rock caves in search of the legendary coins until he discovered six of them somewhere in the South Sea. At the funeral of Rikter Hogsnozzle the following year, Klaxz included a painted-gold copy of a galleon, passed off as the real deal, in his burial gifts, deeply impressing the other funeral goers. His greed attracted the Uninvited Guest, which consumed Klaxz's thoughts of wealth and caused him to start handing away his fortune and belongings. When his wife Slixi saw him approach their personal vault where he kept the galleons, she knocked him out with a frying pan and buried the galleons deep in the woods. Days later, after Klaxz had managed to give away everything that he and Slixi owned and Slixi discovered the presence of the Uninvited, she fled into the woods to dig up the galleons, now the last thing she owned. While running from the Uninvited, she tripped and dropped the coins but managed to escape when her pursuer stopped to count them.

Slixi subsequently invented tossaways, which are visually identical to galleons, as a form of protection against the Uninvited.[1]
