Hello fellow Wowpedians. First of all, you all may know by now about the announcement of the long and awaited remaster of Warcraft III, Warcraft III: Reforged. With this and the approach Blizzard is currently doing with the latest WC3 patches, the current set up with the Warcraft III patch information is just going to explode into a scrolling mess. Unlike how we handle the patches for World of Warcraft with {{Patches}} and each patch getting its own page (unless it was something very minor like the whole mess during Mists of Pandaria, etc.), I feel that the Warcraft III patches could get a similar makeover. However, it would need to be handled differently due to both World of Warcraft and Warcraft III following what seems to be Semantic Versioning. Especially since World of Warcraft: Classic seems to be going in the same direction, sticking with the "1.X.X" (same as Warcraft III currently).

After setting up the patches for StarCraft, StarCraft: Remastered, and StarCraft II here: Template:Patches (Starpedia wiki here on Gamepedia), I've learned things from this. Setting up the whole system that way over on Starpedia seems that it would have flaws. For an example, say StarCraft III were to be a thing and it followed the same patching format as StarCraft II. The issue with this is that it could overlap with similar patch numbers not only with StarCraft II but as well as StarCraft and the remastered. This whole idea can be improved over here with Warcraft III going forward.

Here's what I am proposing:

  • All Warcraft III patches will follow the same naming format as we handle World of Warcraft but under the "Warcraft III" title, e.g. "Warcraft III/Patch 1.30.2"
  • Every Warcraft III patch will use the {{Patchbox}} (or a modified one if need be).
  • Either split {{Patches}} like how I've done it on Starpedia OR (I'm leaning more for this one) create a whole new template for just the WC3 patches, e.g. {{Warcraft III patches}}
    • Either way, we can split off between Reign of Chaos patches, The Frozen Throne patches, patches for both the base game and expansion, and Reforged patches.
  • Warcraft III patch information can either get a whole make over and be treated as the Warcraft III variant of Patch or can just be deleted.

This is something that would be a major overhaul on one area, so I would like to hear feedback from you on how to handle this rather than going for it right away.

I can't say I'm particularly familiar with the subject, but this all sounds good to me. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 14:02, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Leaving free reign on this topic, this is not something I really care about Xporc (talk) 14:05, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. -- MyMindWontQuiet 17:08, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Gonna go ahead and start this project. Feel free to leave suggestions if you have any. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 23:29, 7 November 2018 (UTC)
Warcraft III/Patch 1.01 this is an example of how'll they'll look. Of course, a lot of patches will be more filled out as they contain more than just a sentence like this one. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 15:21, 8 November 2018 (UTC)
Warcraft III/Patch 1.03 is a pretty "big" patch. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 15:45, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Okay, now that the infobox and articles are pretty much done (only thing to do now is to wikify the articles).

Here is the next thing I like some opinions on {{WC3Patch}}. This template will be the replacement for Warcraft Patch. What do you think about it currently? Any changes would you like to suggest? — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 22:41, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

Yea, everyone seems to like the new one better. Already started changing some of them, you can see it on Necklace of Spell Immunity. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 10:07, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
It's more in line with the WoW patch changes format. -- MyMindWontQuiet 17:07, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
