I am trying to view the builds on all of the XXXX Build pages. (Rogue Builds, Priest Builds, etc.) and all fo the links to wowhead are broken. It appears that the underlying link is to a WoWWiki special xfer page and that WoWWiki doesn't recognize the link. Any ideas why this is happening? --Grahamers (talk) 20:09, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

UPDATE: The exact error I am getting is...

"No such special page

From WoWWiki

You have requested a special page that is not recognized by WoWWiki. A list of all recognized special pages may be found at Special:Specialpages."

UPDATE 2: I logged into WoWWiki and the problem went away. Seems like either a bug or a bad error message for non-logged-in users. --Grahamers (talk) 23:07, February 18, 2010 (UTC)
When not logged in, the external links are passed through the Special:Outbound page. It appears that this page was not available to viewers who are not logged in, causing the error. This effectively stops all readers who are not logged in from using the external links.
When logged in, two things happen: the outbound links no longer pass through Special:Outbound, and that page becomes visable. I can't test the non-login version of this problem at the moment, as I am logged in to make this edit. How's that for a Catch 22 :-). --Hops Splurt (talk) 13:38, February 26, 2010 (UTC)
Checked when not logged in. The problem has disappeared for me. External links are no longer passed through Special:Outbound, and that page is visible while not logged in. In hindsight, it appears some good soul wanted to remove the passing through Special:Outbound from the external links (a good idea, as that 'feature' annoyed the heck out of me), but in his haste removed the Special:Outbound page before the changes in the elink templates had percolated up through the caches. So for a few weeks, many users were up a certain creek without a certain implement. --Hops Splurt (talk) 14:01, February 26, 2010 (UTC)
It was originally intended as an interstitial for outbound links. Since logged-in users don't get ads, there's no reason for it to be enabled for them. I guess they've also disabled it in practice for anonymous users as it doesn't seem to be displaying ads. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 14:02, February 26, 2010 (UTC)
