Forum:Firefox Search Plug-in

I don't know how many of our users use Firefox as I do, however, the search plug-in for WoWWiki was extremely useful in my opinion. I tried to add one for Wowpedia, however, I get an error stating 'Firefox could not download the search plugin from:
http://www.wowpedia.org/opensearch_desc.php'. Would this be easy to remedy, or...? --

- Ressy created one and linked it on the Welcome forum. Although now that I think about it, is there any way to make it redirect to Recent Changes if the search field is blank? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:10, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- Just tried to change it so it'll do that, but it broke the entire thing. Don't think I'll be able to get that to work unless the author of the site creates new settings. Sorry :( Ressy (talk) 02:18, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- It seems to only search, as opposed to going to the page you typed in. I typed in "Mage" and it brought me to a search page... Could you do anything about that? -- Teth (T.C) 02:21, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- Not a clue how to do that. To be honest, I just copied wowwiki's, and then edited wowwiki->wowpedia. The wowwiki one doesn't even do that tho. Ressy (talk) 02:29, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Semi-related thought: I use the "WoW Explorer" (from "Build A Gadget.com") sidebar gadget; it has a search feature, with many possible alternatives ... including the Wikia fork, but not this one. If an admin contacted the folks who make it, and asked to be included in the list, I don't see any reason for them to refuse. :) --PaxArcana (talk) 16:51, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

use search box
The new MediaWiki revisions all support OpenSearch, that is, if you have Javascript enabled, you can just click the search engine dropdown next to the search box on the firefox address bar and get an entry to add wowpedia. There's no plugin necessary, unless it does something the wiki search doesn't already. --M.mendel (talk) 23:41, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
