Forum:Archaeology articles
So, it's new profession time. We need to get a boilerplate set up before lots of articles get created so everyone's on the same page.
- Archaeology -- profession summary
- Archaeology rewards -- artifacts listing
- [Beautiful Preserved Fern] -- single artifact
- Archaeology rewards -- artifacts listing
The rewards/crafted artifacts listing could stand to stay on one page (unless there's 4840580 items for each family in which case they're going to get split again), but the actual artifacts themselves should be on their own article.
There are two parts to the artifact, the actual item itself, and its description listed in the archaeology UI. {{book}} for the latter? Sigrie's overloading the spell tooltip to display it (the spell, the item), but I don't like the way it looks.
The two categories I have on Preserved Fern are temporary until we come up with a permanent solution. I was thinking
- Category:World of Warcraft archaeology items -> with or without item quality?
- Category:<Archaeology rarity> <archaeology family>s -> Category:World of Warcraft common dwarf artifacts, Category:World of Warcraft rare fossils, etc...
So... thoughts? It's too late in the day for me to be doing high-level thinking like this, especially after having three tests. Ugh. --k_d3 04:31, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
- Don't really like the use of T:Book here. Changed. Someone else can poke away at it if they want. --Sky (t · c) 04:34, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
- Created 3 more pages: [Black Trilobite], [Belt Buckle with Anvilmar Crest], [Highborne_Pyxis] following kd3's example (before it was edited). I have no opinion on {{book}} vs Description. Resa1983 (talk) 04:47, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
- I'll need to see how it works/looks in the game before I can give an opinion, in the process of doing that now with my new pre-made ... but since reps aren't exalted this time around, I have to fly to Dalaran first and get all that trained... but to match the other professions, shouldn't it be something like archaeology crafted items? Though I guess they're also ingredients...

- Ok I just collect a couple of Night Elf fragments ... now since they exist as an item, even though they never touch our bags, should they be treated like the badges and given their own page with tooltip... I say this cause I was wondering why
[Dwarf Archaeology Fragment] was moved to a reward type of article, when itself is an item that deserves an article correct?

- Oh, those. Yeah. They deserve their own article too. /foreheadsmack
- While I'm thinking about it, We've got several disparate places on the wiki for various important pieces of data that's going to wind up duplicated soon: dig site locations (currently on Archaeology), number of fragments required to create an artifact (Archaeology rewards and the individual artifact articles), what artifacts are in each family (Archaeology rewards too). With the creation of the fragment pages, a good bit of that data is going to wind up duplicated on the fragment articles as well. Maybe have a template -- {{Dwarf artifacts}} -- that gets placed on
[Dwarf Archaeology Fragment] and Archaeology rewards? Though I'm unsure as to how to tie the dig site locations into that. --k_d3 05:09, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
