Forum:3.3 gear out of date?
A friend of mine was using Wowwiki to plan out her tanking gear and was dismayed to find that the stats were wrong on everything. I'm not sure if you guys are using some old PTR patch, but you need to get your gear stats up to date pronto.

I'm just someone who visits WW from time to time to get some good information. I see a lot of BAD information here, so I figured I would alert the WW team. Apparently that makes me a bad person. If you don't want to take the responsibility to maintain an up-to-date database (which is what WW is), that is of course your prerogative. - Atraira, if you want gear info on stuff that very, very recently came out, go to Wowhead or something to get the correct info. Then you can choose whether or not to edit/create the page here on the Wiki. If you choose not to, that's fine. Just don't chastise us for not doing something you're not doing either. --

- Again Atraira, the WW team is the whole WW community. You can't expect a handful of people to keep 79,600+ articles up-to-date at all times. We're not a database site such as wowhead which uses an information gathering program downloaded by helpful users to keep them up-to-date. Many people at least try to help, not just point out problems and do nothing else. You want to help? Please, folks, be charitable. This is a casual user of WoWwiki, not a dedicated editor like you folks. (And yes, I realize that some of this duplicates what Coobra said above. Our edits crossed in the mail...)
To correct a misunderstanding, Atraira, WoWwiki is a wiki, much like Wikipedia, rather than a database site. While we can in some limited cases update pages semi-automatically, we rely on actual database sites, such as Wowhead or Thottbot as a source for those (again, only semi-automated) updates. More commonly, editors have to rely on first-hand observation in-game, or examining those same database sites, to gain information for updates to wowwiki, then edit those pages by hand.
A second misunderstanding, stems from the thought of a "WW team". WoWwiki is run much like Wikipedia, but without any paid administrators, and with a very much smaller number of high-volume contributors. You might think of it like a college-run public broadcast station, compared to some corporate franchise. The "WW team", as you put it, is "whoever happens to be listening in" at the time. Volunteers, that is, not professionals.
My colleagues above responded sharply, in my estimation, for two reasons:
- As I described on your talk page, your comments did not give us enough information to make any changes. Which things did you find out of date?
- As someone with a WoWwiki account, you have the same ability (if perhaps not the desire) to correct things you find out of date as they do.
The fact that you know something is out of date, misleading, or flat out wrong is valuable to the wiki as a whole. Even if are unable or unwilling to contribute to correcting problems that you find, pointing them out to us is helpful. For instance, if you find a page whose information is out of date, you can add {{ood}} at the top of the page, and someone running across it is likely to update the page when they get a chance. And if not, at least you have warned other visitors to that page that it is out of date. There is also a "report a problem with this page" tab at the top of pages, which you might use to indicate whatever problems you see with a given page. (I was unable to get it to work correctly, but you might.)
