Eruna Highmountain was a chieftain of the Highmountain Tribe and wielder of the Eagle Spear who lived several generations prior to the War of the Ancients. The granddaughter of Moren Highmountain, she took the Eagle Spear with her on a pilgrimage to prove her worthiness prior to becoming chieftain. In the northern lands, she rushed to defend a family of night elves from a cabal of tentacled beings, servants of the Old Gods, who were pouring forth from a vast cave and wielding sinister magic. During the battle, Eruna was joined by a mighty bear, who revealed himself as the Wild God Ursoc, and together they drove the strange creatures away.

After the battle, Ursoc took Eruna's measure and judged her to be worthy. Telling the tauren that a great darkness was coming and that the world would need strong leaders and warriors like her, the bear spirit blessed the Eagle Spear, adding his might to its power. In gratitude, Eruna carved Ursoc's name into the weapon much like her grandfather had once done with Ohn'ahra, before returning to her people, ready to lead them.
