Clipping

Clipping is a term used in gaming to describe the loss of part of a spells effectiveness by initiating another cast too soon.

The effect of clipping usually results in reduced damage or healing for the clipped spell, even though the full mana cost has been spent.

While there are times when clipping a spell is necessary and correct, this can cause the mana efficiency of your rotation to be adversely affected.

Examples
  • Starting another cast while channeling (i.e., Casting another spell while channeling [Blizzard]).
  • Casting an effect that restarts a debuff timer (i.e., [Living Bomb]).
  • Casting an effect that causes a DoT on another target to disapate (i.e., [Living Bomb] on a fourth target).
