Captain Thornby was a Kul Tiras officer serving under Admiral Proudmoore in Kalimdor during his invasion of the continent. He was stationed inland, outside of the base camp set up by Vol'jin after the humans attacked the Echo Isles. He and his soldiers may have been killed by Rexxar and his companions, but killing them isn't required.[1] His current fate is unknown.
He dropped Medallion of Courage upon death.

He may be the same person as Thornby, a human villager who volunteered to aid Arthas in protecting Strahnbrad from the Blackrock Clan in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. However, Strahnbrad straddles the border between historic Alterac and Lordaeron, which means that this Thornby would unlikely be a citizen of Kul Tiras by birth. If the two are the same person, he has a past similar to the venerable paladin Dagren the Orcslayer, who joined Admiral Proudmoore's expedition after failing to defeat the Scourge in Lordaeron.
