  • Ancient Mana
  • Concentrated magic from the ancient leylines beneath Suramar.
  • Total Maximum: 300

Ancient Mana is a currency used to power certain structures and feed the hunger of several Nightfallen NPCs.

The initial cap is 300, but is increased through the use of items and quests, up to 2000.

Ancient mana is a byproduct of underground leylines which has naturally reached the surface. While the result can come in many forms, a crystalline form is the most common.[1]

For Nightborne that are dependent on the Nightwell, it is an effective, if crude, substitute for arcwine.

An ancient mana shard in the Suramar wilderness.

The quest N [45] Ancient Mana introduces Ancient Mana and the  [Mana Divining Stone], which applies a permanent, zone-dependent tracking buff that is dispellable. The stone is not needed to keep the buff, only to reapply it. A new stone can be requested at any time. The buff does not involve phasing in any way and you can gather without it, but obviously makes it a lot easier.

At the beginning you will collect Ancient Mana from Ancient Mana Shards. Ancient Mana Chunks and Ancient Mana Crystals, which can drop  [Ancient Mana Crystals] and  [Ancient Mana Gems], are also found in the wilderness around Suramar City. Mana will also drop from most mobs in Suramar, and when mining and gathering herbs in the zone.

If you fish, you can fish Runescale Koi Pools for  [Leyscale Koi] alongside  [Runescale Koi], which are worth 25 Ancient Mana each.

Once you complete N [45] Masquerade which unlocks your city disguise, you can move through the city with reduced risk of aggroing guards and it becomes practical to collect Leypetal Blossoms from the gardens, Glowing Tomes, Leypetal Powder, Mana-Infused Gems and bottles of Twice-Fortified Arcwine from houses and shops.

The  [Boon of the Manaseeker] shoulder enchant, which requires being honored with The Nightfallen, applies the Manaseeker buff. This causes Mana-Tinged Packs to drop from enemies, which can contain  [Ancient Mana Shards] and  [Ancient Mana Crystal Clusters].

  • Ah... the fog has lifted, just a bit...
  • Thank you, I was... losing control.
  • Ugh. I shall never grow accustomed to that.
  • Hanging in there, thanks to you...
  • My head... still spinning...
  • Oh, but for a taste of the real thing...
Chief Telemancer Oculeth
  • Ahh, thank you.
  • My wits return.
  • Eugh... wh.. wha? Oh - it is you! Thank you, outlander.
  • I should hope you never experience that pain...
  • Not withering today, it seems.
  • Blech. How did we live before the Nightwell?
  • A drop in the ocean of my thirst... But appreciated, nonetheless.
  • Still here... for now.
Arcanist Valtrois
  • I am restored!
  • Ru shanna shal'dorei.
  • I shall not squander this gift.
  • Eugh... I will never get used to that.
  • Is there no more? Hm... that will have to suffice.
  • Ick... bitter. We must find a better solution!
  • Hmph. I was fine. You need not concern yourself.

Trivia

According to the comments when fed, Ancient Mana may be necessary, but the taste leaves a lot to be desired. Valtrois describes it as being bitter.

Patch changes

  • Legion Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Ancient Mana nodes now appear as blue on the Minimap instead of yellow.
This was done to distinguish them from vein/herb nodes.
