Disambiguation format

Rather than using the [Claw] and [Claw] format for article names, i suggest we start to use Claw:Pet and Claw:Druid format in all disambi articles. It follows the footsteps of <questname> and would issue the upper/lowercase problem (Claw (druid)/Claw (Pet)). BlackSmith 11:27, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

That would be using false namespaces, and those are bad. ;). Quest: is a problematic one, as it's actually a set of content that developed in a namespace, that probably shouldn't have. --Sky (t · c · w) 23:51, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Version templates

Is it recommended for the individual pages of a faction-disambiguated quest to have the standard {{for}} notice? For instance B [30-35] Fly Over uses {{faction disambiguation}} and its Alliance version contains such a notice, but the Horde version does not. In the "pro" column, those separate pages do exist, so a reader could end up on one and appreciate a quick link to the other. The downside of course is that if it's on the combined page, it's redundant with the "tabs". Perhaps the ideal would be a disambig notice that's removed when transcluded by the template, and links to the combined page...

In general, this article hasn't received a major update since at least 2007. It would be great if a knowledgeable editor could add recommendations to use the cool new features folks have been working on, for instance the {{versions}} templates - which I only recently became aware of. - jerodast (talk) 15:44, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

I looked over the current guidelines; here is what I would change:
TOP SECTION
Change "two primary ways" to "three primary ways".
Add to the list of primary ways: "multi-version pages - a single page using a template to present multiple versions of a subject under different tabs"
SUMMARY OR MULTI-STUB PAGES
Change section name to "Summary, multi-stub, or multi-version pages"
Alternatively, add a new "Multi-version pages" section
Add new paragraph: "With certain article types, a template may be used to present multiple versions of a subject on a single page, distinguished by tabs at the top. This is only appropriate when the sub-pages are truly versions of each other, such as Alliance and Horde versions of a quest, or difficulty levels of the same item. This does not apply to generally disambiguated topics - for instance Portal and Instance portal should remain on separate pages, since they are about distinct concepts."
DISAMBIGUATION LINKS
Replace "For example," and the example with "There are templates available for this purpose, for instance the {{for}} template produces this message:" [example]
Add paragraph depending on the answer to my question above:
"Disambiguation links should not be used on pages that are one version of a multi-version page employing {{faction disambiguation}}. For example, H [30-35] Fly Over does not need a link because B [30-35] Fly Over already presents both pages linked by tabs."
OR
"A disambiguation link may be used on a page that is one version of a multi-version page employing {{faction disambiguation}}. It should link to the section of the multi-version page that refers to the alternate version; for example A [30-35] Fly Over should link to the Horde section of B [30-35] Fly Over using a "hash mark": Fly Over#Horde."
As I said I'm new to some of these features so please correct my terminology/details, and add any relevant ideas. Since these are guidelines I focused more on page and link structure than template usage; a more comprehensive guide could go in Help:Disambiguation, which also needs updating. - jerodast (talk) 10:05, June 27, 2014‎ (UTC)
