Hunter Builds

I'm trying to get the hunter's build page back to a neutral and informative page. Help and comments more than welcome in order to improve the overall quality of the article. I probably missed some important things or gave too much emphasis on others. For working on the article purpose, I copied it in my Sandbox. The original article is yet unmodified and flagged NPOV. Pet Abilities

  • Pet Abilities Looking for comments on how to improve the look and or arrangement of data for the Hunter pet Abilities page. --Dracomage 16:18, 7 Dec 2005 (EST)
I gave some guidance there on Talk:Pet abilities. Let me know if you need anything else. Schmidt 19:04, 11 Dec 2005 (EST)
My apologies for not being able to respond to your suggestion yet. I should have time for it next week. Insert non-formatted text here
completed a while ago. Should be removed or archived. --Dracomage 08:51, 5 June 2006 (EDT)

Is there anything to be done about removing this (archiving is unnecessary) other than just deleting this text? If that's all that needs to be done, anyone can. If there's other stuff to be done, anyone can do that as well. On that talk page you could probably delete any text referring to this, too, unless it might be useful later. In the edit description, however, you should say that you're deleting (or archiving if you so choose) a large amount of text. Schmidt 08:58, 5 June 2006 (EDT)

general Policy rewrite

  • Project:Policy Looking for ideas to rewrite that from scratch. Is deprecated ^^/ -- ℑilver§ℑide 16:54, 7 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • I'll get to this soon, I think. Schmidt 19:04, 11 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • If you need help writing this up, I'll be glad to have a go at it. I'm having some wording ideas for it, so I'll probably get something started later on. If you guys want to change or rework what I write up, that's fine. --Anticrash 13:20, 14 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • Please do. I'm getting tired of this looming over my head. I should have already done it by now. :-( Schmidt 15:21, 14 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • Will do. I'll have to wait until later on today, but I'll get it done. --Anticrash 15:30, 14 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • I am looking at this too at the moment... --  ℑilver§ℑide 16:57, 14 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • Silver, do you mean to change Project:Policy as you've linked above, or Project:Policies? We could have your policytoc template at the top of Policies, and just redirect Policy to Policies. How about that? Schmidt 19:16, 15 Dec 2005 (EST)
    • See what I did... and probably talk about this on Project talk:Policies this is getting offtopic. --  ℑilver§ℑide 20:22, 15 Dec 2005 (EST)

Policy on Boilerplates

  • What is the naming convention for Boilerplates? Also any feedback on the boilerplate I am creating for mobs. Some samples of it in use: Molten Giant, Firelord. --Ralthor 12:36, 10 Mar 2006 (EST)
Well I can't be sure what everyone else might agree upon for this. I guess I never considered it. Anyways, what I'm thinking, after looking at Category:Boilerplates is maybe Boilerplate:Mob or maybe (since namespaces don't work right) Boilerplate:mob. As you might have seen at Project:Boilerplates, you can use the subst function to copy all the contents of the boilerplate into the document calling it. This way you don't have to awkwardly copy and paste. That might help you choose the name. As for convention, there clearly isn't one, but having one would be a good idea. Schmidt 03:44, 12 Mar 2006 (EST)
  • Well I think I have done all the mobs in Molten Core, with the exception of two of them (oh yea and its at Boilerplate:Mob). I definitely like having all the information separated into sections instead of random information through out the article. Most mob pages have their attacks and abilities mixed in with the strat information and some of it wasn't clear or had a lot of duplicate information. I think it is much nicer separated out, but I am not sure I like it on boss mobs (hence why I haven't dones Ragnaros yet), but I am not sure why. More importantly (and before I go changing more mobs to the format) what do other people thing? --Ralthor 00:05, 10 April 2006 (EDT)

Item Template

I've been filling in a bunch of item stubs recently and have been using the Item Template page as a starting point. I just enhanced the template and would appreciate any comments and suggestions. Check out the page source as well since I've added some comments to help future editors. Should this page get moved to Boilerplate:Item? ClydeJr 08:28, 15 April 2006 (EDT)

I like it, I used the old one a couple of times and it was a nice base, but I had to do a lot of changes. Suggestions: External link section to thottbot or alla, also maybe a comment by view source that reminds the user to remove that field and finally you added some possible categories, however, if I were using it it would be incredibly convient to list all the possible item categories that way I could just scroll through and copy/paste the right one instead of having to go through the categories list on another tab and try and see what categories apply. Also I do think it should be renamed Boilerplate:Item. --Ralthor 09:30, 15 April 2006 (EDT)
Good suggestions. I added an external link section, added a comment telling editors to remove the "view source" line, and changed the Category section at the bottom of the source page to include a ton of categories. Finally I moved the page to Help:Item articles ClydeJr 10:31, 15 April 2006 (EDT)

Instance Guides

I have been looking through the Instance and quest guide page and noticed that most of the Instance guides are linked to outside sources. Should we consider bringing them "in-house" by contacting the original author, or adapting their working into a Wiki format? I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed before start on the project. --Dracomage 12:41, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

  • How do I "tag" that discussion with the Comment template? Unable to find an example --Dracomage 12:59, 26 April 2006 (EDT)
I think you just put {{comment}} in the source.
As for the guides, my initial suggestion would be to go through all the current guides and see what kinds of data is on each one. Then create a Instance Guide Boilerplate which has all the sections you might need. Use that to build all your future guides. - ClydeJr 13:52, 26 April 2006 (EDT)
Boilerplate created Boilerplate:Instance Guide. Additional Comments and improvements welcome!--Dracomage 14:40, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

First Instance guide is up: Instance Guide:The Deadmines. Please inspect for comments and improvements. I am also looking for advice on how to "color" the wiki-links to denote item quality (see talk page of Guide).--Dracomage 15:45, 18 May 2006 (EDT)

I don't have any good advice right off. But for the color of items, you would use {{epic|name}}, {{rare|name}} and so on. Note, however, that those are to be used in the text of its own article, such as in Thunderfury. Just now I created a new set of templates: lpoor, lcommon, luncommon, lrare, lepic, llegendary. The initial L (not 1) stands for link, and is initial so that these can all stick together so they don't get lost in oblivion. I'd say use these templates to link to the item and they can be in the proper color. The link's underscore will show up as red if it's a link to an uncreated article, otherwise it'll be blue. Have fun! Schmidt 16:59, 18 May 2006 (EDT)
Thank you (item quality templates) - I started using ClydeJr suggestion, but this is much easier. I'd still appreciate feedback or comments on the guide, its structure, etc. :D --Dracomage 17:19, 18 May 2006 (EDT)
I can't say what a better way to do it is, but I don't like the way the quests are listed. I think maybe you should split the Defias Brotherhood quest line to another page and describe them there; other than that, just link it to that page and have no further detail. Same with A Test of Righteousness, but the rest are fine, since they're not really worth having on another page. The map of the instance should be above the header for Rhakh'Zor. I think all loot should be at the bottom, or at least don't bullet any items. Mention them inline with the text, but not bulletted except at the bottom. There's my comments on it. :D Schmidt 17:26, 18 May 2006 (EDT)
Awesome job, Dracomage. It looks immensely better, in my opinion. What do you think about it? Schmidt 18:00, 18 May 2006 (EDT)
Updated based on feedback. Looks much better, thanks you. --Dracomage 18:02, 18 May 2006 (EDT)
Are you planning on creating pages for the quests as well? I think you should. Not only can you have the basic information but then you can also put any tips and tricks into the quest page as well.
You might also want to add a link from the main The Deadmines page to the instance guide. - ClydeJr 08:02, 19 May 2006 (EDT)
Yes, I still need to add all the quests, as well as redo the main The Deadmines page's loot links to the new Wiki-pages ClydeJr created for me.

Blacksmithing

I've cleaned up the Blacksmithing page over the past several months and I'd appreciate any advice/suggestions/comments on what else to add/delete/modify. -ClydeJr 16:15, 1 June 2006 (EDT)

Template:wowapi & other API-related templates

All of the API pages seem to be named "API SomethingOrOther", which causes them to be sorted under "A" in listings. This can be fixed by adding a sortal to the category tag, which means changing the Template:wowapi (and other) templates that actually do the category stuff. It would require a bit of legwork to change all of the pages to use the new template, but I think it would be worth it. See also: Template Talk:wowapi. Thoughts?--Ktwombley 11:21, 12 July 2006 (EDT)

Pages with mostly external links

This started from a conversation at Project talk:NP Patrol#Empty New pages about empty pages but sort of evolved. I thought it could be further explored here.

I think we should talk about cases like  [Master Sergeant's Insignia], since it has multiple external links to the same DB site (3 sets of external links to Thottbot, Allakhazam and Wowhead). This is confusing in the very least and some effort should be made to distinguish multiple links to the same sites, but maybe we should also think about how we handle pages with moslty external links only. This isn't really a NP Patrol issue, but probably more of a Commentators issue. --Fandyllic (talk) 5:11 PM PDT 20 Sep 2006
