I understand it makes typing colored letters faster, but it also, in your specific case, be used in a poor manner. Further, it basically makes little sense to me to have a template which does nothing but make pretty colors. - To expand a bit upon this, the wiki is designed to work on both dark and light skins - we want to avoid making it "easy" for users to starting colourizing everything without consideration as to whether it's readable on both skins - it's much better done via CSS.
