Love them. Some big-quality additions. My only request of you is to follow the item boilerplate for them. Keep it up! --Sky (t | c | w) 04:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Fishing in Lava

Can you provide more detail about fishing in lava in WoW?
" [Old Ironjaw] adds +5 Stamina when wielded off hand. Caught in the waters or lava in Ironforge."
Where did you do this? I tied fishing in the molten metal in the central forge based on this, and was not able to. The only place I have been able to fish in Ironforge is in the fishing pond in The Forlorn Cavern.

If you hop up on the pillar ledges and edge out a bit.. you are indeed able to fish from the lava right in the middle of Ironforge. (Its a bit tricky to get the right spot, but it is entirely possible) You can also fish from the tranquil pool right in front of the Mystic Ward. Hope that helps! I want to try both of those. I tried fishing in the tranquil pool and got a 'water too shallow' message. I'll try moving around. I never caught Old Ironjaw, but I caught the Horde one on a different character. --Madkaugh (talk) 20:54, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks to your tip, I was able to fish from the lava. I had tried to fish from the yellow molten metal; that seems to fail. I had also tried to fish from the red stuff way below, and that failed from the central path - "Your lure did not hit fishable water". From a couple of the ledges, you can fish into the red stuff. I caught a brilliant smallfish and a longjaw snapper, so they are normal fish for Ironforge. Kudos for finding that.

It may be that the red stuff is supposed to represent water reflecting the glow from the molten stuff, rather than lava. There's no steam; if it is water, there should be copious steam. More likely, it uses the same area type as water, but it isn't supposed to be water, then by a fluke of layout it is also fishable.

I also successfully fished the tranquil pool, in fact I could not reproduce the 'too shallow' message. I thought it might be because I was using a gnome, so I ran a human up to Ironforge, and got the same result. The pool seems quite fishable. (I must have had my lure land on the steps in my previous attempts?)

Still have not caught Old Ironjaw.--Madkaugh (talk) 19:47, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Trophy Fishing takes alot of time. ALOT. I've still not caught a single Mightfish and was starting to doubt them a little... and some person posted on on the Auction House! *sigh* Trilless (talk) 21:03, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Got Old Ironjaw last night. I wasn't specifically trying to, just leveling fishing, but I fished in Ironforge just to get a shot at him. Fortuitously, I've gotten both stat tropies on mages who can actually use them; it's not a shabby off-hand item for WSG at 19. Madkaugh (talk) 18:21, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Just a random thought: Ultimate Fishing Challenge - get the other side's city trophy fish? Madkaugh (talk) 19:06, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Grats on Ironjaw! I've thought about going for old crafty on my alliance toon. I think depending on the time frame it might be doable on my server. I did the fire festival flames so.... anything is possible right? I run a small guild on my server.. and our guild page has a special "trophy fishing page"... and believe it or not... I'm not the only one listed on it! Trilless (talk) 20:57, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

The new fishing achievements have fishing ***BOTH*** of these. Was discussing that with my son today, and we realized that the inspiration for that may well have come from a Blizzard developer reading your talk page. Madkaugh (talk) 23:11, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
