Hey, just thought I'd drop by. How about (instead of putting a map on each subzone), putting a map with each of the subzones listed, such as Image:Alterac_Map.jpg does? --Sky (talk | con | wh) 07:54, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Map text

How about something like this?

I'm having some trouble with the positioning (right now it's anchored at the upper-left corner of the text, so if you try to center it, the zoom moves it around), but I like the idea of being able to add text to maps. User:DarkRyder/Sig 00:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

The problem I have with this is that if all the subzones were on there, the map becomes very crowded and hard to read. Also, it's hard to tell exactly what the words are referring too - for example, camps and things are small on the map but the words cover a large area. It is an option, though, and could be useful many other things. -Jiyambi t || c 04:30, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Thoughts

This is similar to an idea I had about a year ago that I never really implemented, due to the horribly huge amount of work it would entail. When fleshing out some of the original outdoor PvP pages, I added something like this to the Eastern Plaguelands towers, like Northpass Tower. I drew a(n exceedingly ugly) lime green circle on a map of the zone to indicate which of the towers it was. While this certainly got the message across, it also made for an ugly article with two images and little text. While I really think we need better documentation of the location of subzones, and that the subzone page is the logical place to put a map, I've found in practice it has sub par results (not to mention it'd be an ass ton of work). Of course, as you stated above, making one map with all the subzones marked in it can be messy, but the third example you have on the page seems very reasonable, conveying the information in an intuitive manner. That's my vote for the moment, though I do think it would be ideal to have a map of some sort on the subzone page if only it didn't make it so damn ugly. --Mikaka 11:36, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the input, Mikaka. I think I like the idea of having a map with subzones marked on the main zone page in addition to marked location maps on subzones. Honestly, I sortof liked your version of the location map better than my black square - the lime green shows up much better. Personally I don't think it's "ugly" enough to not include for that reason, but I suppose it would be good to get a few more people's opinions before attempting to implement it on a large scale. The main zone page maps, however, I think I might get to work on. -Jiyambi t || c 06:47, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
