Welcoming Committee related stuff

Put any welcoming committee related stuff here...

It appears that I signed up for WelComm. That is fine unless I am needed somewhere else!

PS: YAY Mac Gamer like myself! COOL! purrdeta 19:36, 25 April 2006 (EDT)

Glad to see you're still interested in WelComm. You're signed up! I'll leave some further info on your talk page.
Mac gaming is getting better slowly. Hopefully Bootcamp won't give gaming companies the excuse to stop developing for Macs. --Fandyllic 1:38 PM PDT 26 Apr 2006

Hey, I wouldn't mind helping out with WelComm. If you add me to the team, do you mind stopping by my talk page and giving me a bit more info about what you will expect of me? Thanks ~Tarog 22:55 PDT 4 May 2006

thanks for the welcome :) Mooklepticon 13:46, 5 July 2006 (EDT)

AMA related stuff

Put any WoWWiki:AMA related stuff here...

Hi there. I know you're the (although temporary) leader of the AMA and I figured out that you could be the one able to answer my question. Do I have to wait until somebody posts on the AMA request page to act or should I check regularly the often edited Talk Pages ? Thanks.--Kirochi 09:19, 13 September 2006 (EDT)

In my personal opinion, stepping in to mediate when something seems to be getting out of control is something that any wowwikian can do. It all helps. :-)   --Mikk (T) 10:16, 13 September 2006 (EDT)
Like Mikk says, you don't have to wait. You should do whatever you think you can do in the time you decide to allocate to AMA. --Fandyllic 8:31 AM PDT 13 Sep 2006

New Pages not showing up as Un-patrolled?

Since the weekend None of the new pages added is showing up as "not patrolled"?? Any ideas? --Dracomage 11:31, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

This looks like either a bug or a quirk. I would add this problem to MediaWiki Quirks and create a bug article (put in [[Category:Bugs]]) for this problem. I'll bring it up to Rustak. --Fandyllic 1:50 PM PDT 6 Sep 2006

Hey Fandyllic. I decided to wait 3 days and then drop a note here since you're the teamleader. (=> Project:NP_Patrol/Join) -watchout 14:46, 15 September 2006 (EDT)

Server:Frostmane

Thanks for keeping an eye on Server:Frostmane, i realise that Delete/Vote properly wasnt the correct procedure, I was looking for some equilant to Wikipedia's {{NPA}} or {{POV}} but couldnt find anything. Kaso 12:41, 23 April 2006 (EDT)

Hey there, Server:Frostmane had been bugging me a while, so last night i basically did some sweeping edits to try and bring it into line with DNP and NPOV, which in hindsight was proberly a bad idea to do before consulting you/others but alas. Anyway since then there has been a tidal wave of edits basically adding back what i took back, could you take a look and perhaps work out what we're going to do with this odd page? Thanks --Kaso 05:40, 8 July 2006 (EDT)

WoW Radio to Broadcast BlizzCon

Should WoW Radio to Broadcast BlizzCon and other pages like it hang around? I mean, it's in the orphanage, and I think we should maybe euthenize it, since we can't find a good home for it. But if you have a special place for it, maybe we can keep it around. lol. Anyways, there' plenty of pages like it that also have some tidbit of information. Do we want stuff like that? I flagged this specific article for speedydelete, but it can be up to you to keep it. Schmidt 04:36, 25 June 2006 (EDT)

Just a side note on news pages in general, not this particular one. News pages tend to be orphans since they're navigated via Category:News. Recently, we've been adding them to WoWWiki:Orphanage/News Pages just to get them out of the orphan listing. --Mikk 06:29, 25 June 2006 (EDT)
What's the use of even a news page if there's nothing that links to it? By that I don't mean to say that all articles should be eliminated if it doesn't have links to it. I mean that if there is no plan to link to them, then there's no reason to have it. On the other hand, I realize that there may be use of a page in the future. In that case, there is a sort of plan to use it, so we should keep it.
Ummm. Where am I going? I'm saying that if we decide to keep stuff like this, we should think about having a place where we might link stuff like this. Schmidt 17:41, 25 June 2006 (EDT)
We've discussed this before, see Category talk:News. The basic problem with that is that it requires quite a bit of an effort. --Starlightblunder 18:58, 5 July 2006 (EDT)

Some input on Project talk:DNP policy please

Hi. I have a policy proposal up about adding defamation and off-topic content to the DNP policy.

The only point we're haggling right now is whether or not defamation should be outright cut out of the page before tagging it for deletion. I'm thinking it's good if it disappears quickly, while Schmidt isn't of the same opinion and sees the utility in letting the text remain to make the page deletion process faster/easier. Now, since you're the remaining 50% of people actively executing page deletions here, I thought I ought to poke you about it, too, before I go and change the proposal. --Mikk 16:41, 25 June 2006 (EDT)

Edit war

Seems to be an edit war going on at Server:Sunstrider_Europe, perhaps you could block those responsible for the inapproriate content when it settles down and you are around to review it.--Ralthor 17:28, 8 July 2006 (EDT)

Fancy Banner

How many of those fancy banners have you made? RPG, Manga, etc? Have you done any for the novels yet? Me likes.Baggins 20:04, 10 July 2006 (EDT)

Those would be mine, not Fandyllic's :-P
The only ones I've made are at Project:Templates (at the bottom).

Server:Chromaggus

Could you add a warning to Server:Chromaggus similar to the one you added to Server:Frostmane? We've got some people vandalizing the information there. I would've added the warning, but I'd rather have an admin do it. - ClydeJr 15:23, 11 July 2006 (EDT)

Hmmm... I didn't see anything on Server:Chromaggus to warrant a warning or {{NPOV}} note. Is there something specific you could point out? --Fandyllic 2:55 PM PDT 11 Jul 2006
Zeitgeist16 removed the Masquers guild [1], removed a crafter [2], and added a comment about the guild Masquers [3]. Tiez added the same comment about the guild [4]. I don't really want anyone to get banned. I just want to stop a revert war before it starts. - ClydeJr 16:04, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
I added the warning. I might ban some folks for a week, so they know the warning is serious. --Fandyllic 4:24 PM PDT 11 Jul 2006

Vandalism?

I think I found some vandalism on this page, Death Revenant. Text doesn't make any sense. Well I'll try to give it a real article later on.Baggins 18:41, 12 July 2006 (EDT)

It's mild vandalism at best. I marked it {{speedydelete}} for now. --Fandyllic 6:40 PM PDT 12 Jul 2006

Thanks for the welcome!

Hi Fandyllic, Thank you for your welcome on my talk page. Yes, I hope I can continue to contribute. I've only been playing WoW since May, but I've still observed certain things about the game in that time. :) Petrus4 19:36, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

Blood Elves topic

Just giving you a heads up to keep track of Pigzig's posts, he keeps on removing information from Blood Elfs topic, in the physical appearance section, which go against neutral POV. I.E. he's putting his own view over other differing views on the subject. I've tried to let him know not to do it. But he keeps on doing it. I'd rather it not turn into a edit war.Baggins 08:24, 22 July 2006 (EDT)

Posting on his talk page is probably a better way of bringing up the problem with him; not everyone reads edit history. Or even knows that it exists. I've posted a blurb there now. --Mikk 12:40, 22 July 2006 (EDT)

Zero content Pages (New page Patrol)

Posted on the NP Project discussion pages as well. Please seen new pages added by Rascilon (talk · contr). Advice please? --Dracomage 13:48, 16 August 2006 (EDT)

Can you be more specific? From a quick review of Rascilon's recent changes he's just adding images to NPC pages. Seems okay with me. --Fandyllic 12:15 PM PDT 17 Aug 2006
Today Umbra  [Knight-Lieutenant's Dragonhide Treads] etc, yesterday Rascilon -  [Runic Leather Headband], guild pages, location pages, quest pages etc. Nothing but a name, stubbie and categories. The Stub/Item list has gone from aroun 220 to over 400 in a week... Look at my talk page - about a month ago I got rapped on the knuckles for doing that (went back and added the content). What is the expectation? --Dracomage 14:41, 17 August 2006 (EDT)
Who harassed you for adding stubbed articles? Anyway, we don't have a policy or even a guideline as far as I know. This isn't wikipedia. We like to keep the bruaucracy low (or at least I do). In my opinion, if you create stubbed article and it has to do with World of Warcraft or provides good context for something in WoW, it's okay. Some guild pages are borderline, but I'm pretty lenient. You may want to ask Schmidt's opinion.
I suspect Rustak will say something if we make the article DB too big, but I think we're a long way from that. I try to just make sure the articles aren't vandalized, don't obviously violate the policies we do have, and relevant to WoW. --Fandyllic 2:11 PM PDT 17 Aug 2006
The concern is simply that it's somewhat annoying for visitors to follow links to pages and just be greeted by "HAH! Lewzer! There's nothing whatsoever here, I'm a stub!". I personally prefer having a red link over a blue one leading to nothing whatsoever. --Mikk 15:18, 17 August 2006 (EDT)
I understand that for pages that are quite old, but many of the pages Dracomage is talking about at least have links to Thottbot, a picture, or something... When I see a stubbed page, I usually have the impulse to put something in there... ;-) --Fandyllic 2:57 PM PDT 17 Aug 2006
I just feel for the folks working towards getting the Stub/Item below the 200 items level. My apologies for making a mountain out of a molehill. --Dracomage 06:50, 18 August 2006 (EDT)
Yeah, filling in stubs is alot of work, but we do have thousands of users. Assuming the dedicated people do the items that most people don't care much about (grays, ingredients and obscure quest items) and all the other users fill in 1 or 2 they care about, we should make good progress. I don't think there is a high expectation that WoWWiki will replace all the DBs that upload item stats directly from the client. WoWWiki should server more as a place for those little tidbits of info about items that don't appear in their stats, but are easier to find in a wiki than a long thread after the items stats filled with "This sword PWNZ" and "HUNTER WEAPON LOL". --Fandyllic 10:34 AM PDT 18 Uag 2006

Fandyliic

That's the most ingenious (but ban-worthy) vandal I've seen so far :P -- Kirkburn 17:37, 24 August 2006 (EDT)

Yes, very clever. Would have gotten farther if he hadn't mucked with my user pages. Needless to say, I put a watch on FandyIlic (talk · contr)("FandyiLic") and FandyIIic (talk · contr) ("Fandyiiic") in case some similar atempt is made. --Fandyllic 5:20 PM PDT 24 Aug 2006
Good idea :) Glad you picked it up quickly ... I was so confused until I copy-pasted your "Reverted edit of FandylIic, changed back to last version by Fandyllic" into the wowi IRC channel and saw the one char difference. Silly people :-/ Btw, cool that the new front page is a-coming :) -- Kirkburn 18:20, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
I'm really glad you picked it up, I was really unhappy if the admin policy on advising new people that they are doing things incorrectly was post "You edit crappy" and start smacking around the ban stick. :o BTW let me know if I'm doing things messily I'm just trying to help fill out the resources, this place is a lot more intuitive than thott or alla. Thank you!!!! Emerez 09:58, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

He's back :/ -- Kirkburn 12:05, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

Anything you did was done in good faith. I'll try to restore as much as I can so the original histories come back, but it's not a big deal. --Fandyllic 3:43 PM PDT 25 Aug 2006
Might I join the hallowed halls of the cleaners club? :P -- Kirkburn 18:08, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
Meanwhile, I care about the 2500 club ;) Lookit, I even made the logo all nice and lovely now -- Kirkburn 19:38, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
I'm gonna make a new badge without the museum stuff... with new numbers too. ;-) --Fandyllic 6:59 PM PDT Aug 25 2006
Ach, you! :) Nice logos though ... -- Kirkburn 06:17, 26 August 2006 (EDT)
Argh, my hard drive crashed and I lost the source Photoshop files for my badges... So, there won't be any new ones unless I make them from scratch... :-( --Fandyllic 2:42 PM PDT 30 Aug 2006
Nooooo! /me consoles Fandyllic and lost data :( -- Kirkburn (talk) 15:55, 30 August 2006 (EDT)
Good news! It turns out my hard drive wasn't completely dead, so I had a chance to recover like 99% of my data. So the PSD files are back. Never gonna trust that HD again, though. --Fandyllic 6:46 PM PDT 10 Sep 2006

YOU'RE WELCOME

JUST THINK OF IT AS IM HELPING YOU... EXPOSING THE MAJOR flaws this site has. --FandyIIic 15:23, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

Alternatively, it exposed the MAJOR flaws YOU have, no? -- Kirkburn 15:27, 25 August 2006 (EDT)
Ehm.. uhmm.. I don't think you have fully grasped the concept of "wiki". Anyone being able to edit stuff is what wikis is about. What you're doing is just causing a bit of extra work for our contributors. No biggy, we get 14-year olds with spray cans on a weekly basis. It's a wee little bit annoying but ... umm.. it happens all the time. You're just another one in a long long line of sad people with no abilities in them to actually do anything constructive. Or no? It's up to you to prove it. --Mikk 16:11, 25 August 2006 (EDT)

Yet Another One

This time he's called himself User:Fandylic *sigh* -- Kirkburn 17:09, 27 August 2006 (EDT)

He's impersonating Kirkburn... and SilverSide. --Ragestorm 13:54, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

Welcome to the (between <a lot of edits> and <a sh*tload of edits>) Club !

This idea is great and very funny ; I was a bit amazed when I didn't see that DT wasn't in the 1000Club, but it was because he is in the 2500Club xD. Congratulations, this will bring some fun (and, if we aren't lucky, a rush to the flooding of the wiki) --Kirochi 03:19, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

I didn't have a real systematic method of looking for people to give badges to, so I checked the people who I remember who have been well-known contributors. Congratulations. --Fandyllic 11:10 AM PDT 28 Aug 2006

5K

o_O when did that happen. CJ 06:34, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

Probably awhile ago... Remember you're CrazyJack, not just regular old Jack... ;-) --Fandyllic 11:09 AM PDT 28 Aug 2006

Admins

We need more people with admin powers, we really really do. I know you probably know this, but surely you can do something about it? -- Kirkburn 13:54, 28 August 2006 (EDT)

A surprise? A bloody shock more like :) Mikk saw it just before me, then I looked at the top of my screen and thought .. "Hey, useful" :) Gratz on your promotion as well of course. Let's make this wiki more awesome than ever! And give that guy a shock if he returns ... (I shan't abuse my position as I wouldn't be able to live with it, I'm like that, fortunately) -- Kirkburn 19:07, 28 August 2006 (EDT)
Btw, you already are a bureacrat. -- Kirkburn 19:08, 28 August 2006 (EDT)
Heh, I noticed. This happened when you got promoted to admin (sysop). Rustak got to it much quicker than I thought he would. --Fandyllic 6:30 PM PDT Aug 2006
Btw, I just restored the most recent talk page archive of yours - it's been bugging me for a while that you accidently deleted it and caused a broken redirect :P -- Kirkburn 10:17, 29 August 2006 (EDT)

Just in case you feel either me or Mikk are making edits without much consulting - we actively discuss issues on the WoW Interface IRC channel :) You should say hello sometime! Anyone is always welcome :) (see my user page for the address) -- Kirkburn (talk) 15:03, 31 August 2006 (EDT)

Actually I added the channel name to Project:About the wiki. Being able to get hold of a pair of admins via IRC struck me as a good idea.   --Mikk (T) 07:13, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

Project talk:Policy/Editing/Goodremoved

Just bringing this vote to your attention ... you've voted on it before, I just want to check you are still of the same view given the more recent comments. Thanks :) -- Kirkburn 11:16, 29 August 2006 (EDT)

Yeah, I'm changing my vote. It should be a guideline. It really doesn't matter, though. There seem to be enough votes to recall already. --Fandyllic 8:13 AM PDT 30 Aug 2006

Mikkbot = bot

Heya. If you feel like exercising your newly-earned Bureaucrat Powers, could you mark "Mikkbot" as a bot please? (It's the account spewing WoWWiki:RC/Content, Events (API) subcategories, etc..) Thanks!   --Mikk (T) 22:10, 6 September 2006 (EDT)

Done! --Fandyllic 7:16 PM PDT 6 Sep 2006

Okay, Watchoutbot has been bot-ified. --Fandyllic (talk) 3:15 PM PDT 22 Sep 2006

Liaison to Blizzard?

Hi Fandyllic, and thanks for your commentary. I've forwarded your request on to my CM Overlord. As an MVP I'm not able to speak to that sort of question. Hopefully we'll see some feedback soon.

--Palehoof 13:27, 7 September 2006 (EDT)

News articles

Can I suggest putting news articles in a "News:" namespace in future? It might be an idea to do a wiki project to go through the past news articles and move them to there and remove all that are now irrelevant or unimportant? :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 14:26, 8 September 2006 (EDT)

Sounds like a good idea... maybe Mikk can write a cool bot to do it? What I'd really like to do is organize them by year and date, but that might be asking too much. We would need a good critieria to decide which ones to remove. According to Rustak, the number of articles in the wiki shouldn't be a problem. --Fandyllic 2:48 PM PDT 8 Sep 2006
That's good to hear :) Yeah, some date system would be good .... hmmm ... /me pokes Mikk :P -- Kirkburn (talk) 19:18, 8 September 2006 (EDT)
Yeah I can probably script something up. Perhaps just try to get the date from the article if available or otherwise get it from when the article was created. I can categorize them according to year and month and/or prefix the date (in ISO syntax, e.g. 2006-09-08 to make them sort right).   --Mikk (T) 19:42, 8 September 2006 (EDT)
That sounds excellent to me, and would be much appreciated :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 19:54, 8 September 2006 (EDT)
Cool. Just tell me if you have a bot that needs to be added tot he Bot user group. --Fandyllic 11:12 AM PDT 9 Sep 2006

New "patrollers" group

Rustak figured this out with a bit of prodding from my end. It's now a group setting like I originally thought so Rustak set up a "patrollers" group that people need to be a member of to do RC/NP patrolling.

The alternative was to allow EVERYONE to mark stuff as patrolled, but this sounded like the better solution to me -- vandals can't mark their edits as patrolled this way.

  --Mikk (T) 17:34, 10 September 2006 (EDT)

Can you make Mikkbot a patroller too so that WoWWiki:RC starts working again please?   --Mikk (T) 21:32, 10 September 2006 (EDT)
I added admins, NP Patrol members, and RC Patrol members to "patrollers" group... and Mikkbot too. --Fandyllic 6:35 PM PDT 10 Sep 2006
Schweet. Thanks.   --Mikk (T) 21:40, 10 September 2006 (EDT)

Admin sig

I'd been meaning to mention it to you - good idea don't you think? I suggested it, Mikk made it :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 16:09, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

Yup I do like it... I think we should all use something like it. Either use {{adminsig|user_name}} or {{subst:adminsig|<user_name>}}. I protected the template, since only admin's should be changing it, but no way that I know of to keep anyone from using it. Fandyllic (talk) 1:14 PM PDT 19 Sep 2006
Not sure if you know but you can have it as the automatic sig. In your preferences, tick raw signatures and put -- {{SUBST:adminsig|Fandyllic}} in the Nickname bit. It just replaces your normal ~~~~ with that. It insists on the subst bit unfortunately. Anyways, we can't stop people from creating sigs based on ours in the first place :/ -- Kirkburn (talk) 16:21, 19 September 2006 (EDT)
Good idea. Thanks. --Fandyllic (talk)

Tip of the day categorization

Uh, quick thing - shouldn't you be using <noinclude> when categorising? Otherwise we may have a categorised front page :P Also, Image:Logoidea.png :) -- Kirkburn (talk) 17:17, 19 September 2006 (EDT)

I assume you're talking about my Tip-of-the-day categorizing? I'll worry about it when the Main Page looks like it's getting categorizd. Right now I'm lazy... ;-) --Fandyllic (talk) 6:19 PM PDT 19 Sep 2006
It most certainly got categorized. As did the other pages pulling the tip of the day, of course. I've noincluded it all now.   --Mikk (T) 04:52, 20 September 2006 (EDT)

Logo, icon etc

Do you think I could borrow your icon background? I.e. the flags minus the logo on top. I want to toy with Image:Logoidea.png a little :-)   --Mikk (T) 10:05, 20 September 2006 (EDT)

I'll upload just the red-blue background flags alone, but let me see if I can find the separate source flags... they're not that hi-res as I remember, but we'll see. --Fandyllic (talk) 2:43 PM PDT 20 Sep 2006
Can't find the source files for my Alliance and Horde flags so far, but maybe you can do something with the following images from the wow-europe site:
I'll keep looking. --Fandyllic (talk) 3:31 PM PDT 20 Sep 2006
Okay, I think I used these two wallpapers for my flags:
