Bind to Account page revert

Regarding this reversion

I am aware that a majority doesn't always imply correctness, but when the community comes up with a term to describe something, their own acronym can't be "wrong". Bind on acquire redirects to bind on pickup, because nobody uses the term bind on acquire; Boa redirects to bind on account. Can you please explain why you think the other revision is better? – Emmett 04:33, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Actually, I agree with everything you just said. I reverted the page because the changes you made all but swept away the insistence on Bind TO account as being "proper" terminology. I am also unsatisfied with how the page says that BoA is "incorrect" but I wanted to see if you would want to discuss the page before I changed anything. "BoA" should certainly be added to the A.K.A. part in the first sentence, but BtA should be the abbreviation used elsewhere. You also removed Bind on Acquire, which I also agree with. That term hasn't been used for a very long time, and it redirects to Bind on Pickup, anyway. Let me know what you think. --Eincrou (talk) 04:57, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
If we both agree that BoA is the term used nearly universally, how does it follow that BtA is the proper term and why should we use on the page other than to briefly note that a small minority rarely uses it? The only thing I would have changed with my revision was at the end, where instead of just leaving "Bind on Pickup (BoP)" I would have left "Bind on Pickup (BoP) or (rarely) Bind on Acquire (BoA)"; otherwise, I don't believe mentioning BtA except in the AKA part is warranted. – Emmett 17:17, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
"[...]how does it follow that BtA is the proper term[...]" In my experience, we always use the in-game spellings and terminology rather than players' nicknames. Even more so than this case I'm sure that Dala is the term players use most often for Dalaran, but I couldn't find us using that term once on the page. That is less of an "error" than substituting a word or letter that isn't there, or I think more likely, players assuming based on the other bind types. Of course, it should be noted that BoA is used as a nickname, but I don't think the frequency of an error should have us, who know it's wrong, giving it more credibility than it deserves. A person using Wowpedia should be able to make the mistake of searching BoA, be taken to that page and immediately become aware of the truth that they hadn't noticed: it's not actually Bind on Account. Us making intentional errors when our job ought to be giving players accurate information doesn't seem right, even if it bucks an established trend. --Eincrou (talk) 18:33, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
"Note that the in-game tooltip actually displays the words "Binds when picked up", which is why some players use "BwP", but "BoP" is the most common form. The term "Bind on Acquire" is sometimes used by players, but never appears in-game" ...and yet the articles we have are still Bind on pickup and we still have bind on Acquire as a redirect. Unlike for Dalaran, it is unimportant for lore or any other reason to call it exactly what the game calls it; the mechanic is described as the community knows it, not by the exact text Blizzard uses in-game. BoA to describe binds to account is not wrong. For the vast majority of people, BoA is clear and describes what it is intended to describe. BoA means binds to account to most everyone; BtA rarely means anything to anyone. – Emmett 19:02, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

I think by now we're just talking past each other and anything further would just be a pointless back and forth. Please, make the changes as you see fit. --Eincrou (talk) 00:03, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
