Beast Mastery: Talos, Bond of the Simulant Beast

Ability hunter bestialdiscipline.png

Quest

Beast Mastery hunters are called to the Bronzeholt, a great forest of metal and glass on the edges of Dun Valdr. It was grown from one of the Simulant Gardens; basins of mechanical life built by the Dun Valdr mechagnomes in appreciation of nature. These wilds are full of clockwork creatures, forged in the shapes of bears, stags, panther, birds, and many others. Though crafted in elegant, flowing shapes and dotted with whirling wind-up keys, chimes, and gears, make no mistake; these are deadly beasts, devouring each other for precious metals and minerals to make their young.

While on the trail of a powerful simulant beast, Talos, the hunter runs into a group of enkidian poachers, the giants having expanded their territory into the Bronzeholt. Clinging to the remnants of the Titans, the enkidians are here to enslave the machines of Dun Valdr, incorporating them into their rapidly-decaying armies. As both parties race after Talos, the hunter is ambushed by the oil-bleeding constructs utilized by the giants, losing the beast's trail. After finally catching up, they find Talos' mechanical body shattered, the enkidians having been enraged at its defiance to the point of slaughter. The hunter makes quick work of the poachers, before realizing that a fragment of Talos' will still exists; its core lies intact.

The hunter gains the choice to insert Talos' core into one of the empty simulant shells around them, including a bear, wolf, panther, and spider. Following its reconstruction, the beast imprints on the hunter, pledging its loyalty for its continued existence.

Talos' quest-line involves strengthening the machine's core and body with all manner of materials scavenged across Azjol-Nerub. In addition, the hunter becomes a protecter of the artificial wilds, learning that life is precious no matter what form it takes.

Flavor/Bonuses

  • Per Talos' nature as a mechanical being, its shape can be altered by inserting its core into a variety of simulant shells. These shells take the forms of many simulant beasts, are unique to the Beast Mastery specialty, and can be found across Azjol-Nerub. If the hunter would like to change Talos into a more "fleshy" beast form, they can find and install a [Hologram Projector] to change its form to match another one of their pets.
  • Talos may be modded in other ways to provide conveniences and utilities. What's better than a pet? A pet that's also an appliance!
  • [Scare Beast] now also affects mechanically-classified simulant beasts as well as normal beasts.

Marksmanship: Transfusion of the Old Blood

Ability hunter focusedaim.png

Marksmanship hunters are called to the Howling Wastes of Ur'hedj Plateau, an empty expanse of roiling ice-crests and gale-force winds, to hunt a beast of the Old Gods known as Gal'zax. The creature is a N'shaar, a ferocious, flesh-warped hound that stalks the tundra, drawn by the void sky above and the promise of flesh below. As the hunter tracks and attempts to trap it, unsuccessfully, they are approached by rangers of the Vespertine; traitor remnants of the Twilight's Hammer who have journeyed to Ur'hedj to extinguish the last, flickering embers of the cult. They offer assistance, as well as an opportunity if the hunter is successful.

After managing to trap and kill Gal'zax, the Vespertine return and offer admittance into their order at their base in Duskfall; through the use of ritual, the former cultists can infuse aberrant blood into the hunter, allowing them to draw upon its corrupted strength. Fighting void with void, the hunter will become a bloodborne predator of the wastes, dedicated to the slaughter of aberrations and monstrosities.

Following the ritual, this vestige's storyline will continue as the hunter takes down bigger and bigger targets, using their organs in rituals to empower their own inoculated blood. They will learn the secrets and rites of the Vespertine as they attempt to atone for their sins, culling the last few members of their cult. In addition, the hunter must learn to quell the monster inside of them that speaks with their own voice, lest it consume them.

Flavor/Bonuses

  • The hunter will occasionally receive whispers from themselves, or rather, the presence inside of them nourished by aberrant blood. This presence will speak to the hunter regarding the choices they have made, remarking on characters you have met, foes you have slain, and locations you have visited.
  • Attuned to the blood of monsters, hunters may now [Track Aberrations] .
  • [Scare Beast] becomes [Scare Creature] , working on both beasts and aberrations.
  • Eventually unlock the [Armaments of the Gloaming Stalker] , a set of unique Twilight Cult-themed transmog armor and weapons.
