Sapphiron the Wychlord is the Heroic Mode only boss of Naxxramas, the Fallen Necropolis. Created from the bones of Sapphiron through the power of the Malevolence. Speaking through the Wychlord, the Malevolence will finally address players directly.

Phase One - Malevolent Forces

Malevolent Fiend

Skeleton warriors animated by twisted arcane energy. Attacks in close melee.

  • Inv sword 48.png Malevolent Strike  —  A rapid and powerful melee strike that deals 125% normal damage to the target.

Malevolent Soulflayer

Skeletal mage animated by twisted arcane energy. Attacks from a distance with arcane spells.

  • Spell nature starfall.png Arcane Missiles  —  Bombards the target with magical missile that deal arcane damage. 3 second channeled spell. Interruptable.
  • Spell arcane arcane03.png Arcane Lance  —  A swiftly cast spell that deals a burst of arcane damage. 1.5 second casting time. Interruptable.

Malevolent Wraith

A phantasm created by the Malevolence. Melee attacker, uses quick attacks but low damage, teleports to random targets

  • Ability rogue shadowstep.png Shadowstep  —  Instantly teleports behind a random target.

Ambient Malevolence

Dark spirits generated by the very presence of the Malevolence. Non-elites with a basic melee attack.

Phase Two - Sapphiron the Wychlord

  • Ability mage arcanebarrage.png Arcane Beams  —  Energy beams blast random targets, dealing arcane damage. Cast every 10 seconds.
  • Inv misc bone 07.png Bone Blades  —  Strikes the nearest target in melee range for physical damage.
  • Spell lightning lightningbolt01.png Malevolent Lightning  —  Strikes all players with massive arcane damage if no targets are in melee range.
  • Spell arcane blast.png Malevolent Grasp  —  Releases dark energy sparks that crawl along the ground. If they strike a player, they form massive Malevolent Void Zones. Anything standing in a Malevolent Void Zone takes shadow damage. All damage dealt restores the health of Sapphiron the Wychlord.
  • Spell frost frostblast.png Column of Frost  —  Conjures three Columns of Frost that move randomly. Columns will deal frost damage to all nearby players and place the debuff Chilling Cold.
    • Spell frost frostshock.png Chilling Cold  —  If this debuff stacks to 10, players will become frozen in a block of ice and the column will despawn. Players frozen in a block of ice must be freed by allies.
  • Spell deathknight iceboundfortitude.png Malevolent Desolation  —  Releases a tremendous blast of dark energy, destroying everything it hits. Can only be avoided by hiding behind an Ice Block.

Phase Three - The Wychlord Revealed

  • Spell shadow teleport.png Touch of the Malevolence  —  Deals a small amount of arcane damage to all targets and afflicts them with the Arcane Bane debuff.
    • Spell shadow shadesofdarkness.png Arcane Bane  —  Instantly teleports behind a random target.
  • Ability creature disease 05.png Rising Instability —  Releases a massive blast of arcane energy every time the Wychlord loses 4% of his health, dealing arcane damage to all targets.
  • Inv misc bone 02.png Animate Dragonbones —  Raises a Dragonbone Constructs to attack the Wychlord's enemies.

Dragonbone Construct

Powerful elite monsters created from Sapphiron's shattered bones.

  • Ability rogue ambush.png Dragonflay Strike —  Deals physical damage to the target and reduces armor by 20%.
  • Spell shadow soulleech 3.png Growing Malevolence —  Increases the attack power and movement speed of the Dragonbone Construct by 5%. Stacks every 5 seconds. Stacks to 99

Strategy

Phase One

The Wychlord, agent of the Malevolence, stands revealed.

Sapphiron the Wychlord can only be confronted on Heroic Mode. When players attempt to enter the hallway leading to Kel'Thuzad's Chamber, it will freeze over with ice and the encounter will begin. The mysterious Malevolence will contact the party, and Sapphiron's scattered bones will rise into the air, sparkling with arcane energy. Malevolent Fiends, Malevolent Soulflayers, Malevolent Wraiths, and Ambient Malevolence adds will begin spawning and attacking any nearby targets.

As enemies fall, pieces of Sapphiron's skeleton are drawn up into the air, forming a vortex of bone around a whirling core of arcane energy. The vortex randomly casts Arcane Beams (see Phase 2 abilities) at a gradually increasing rate. After three minutes have passed, Phase Two begins.

Phase Two

Sapphiron the Wychlord will form completely as Phase Two begins. He remains stationary in the middle of the room and will unleash his various abilities. If no one is in melee contact with him for longer than 3 seconds, he will use Malevolent Lightning to rapidly destroy the party. Reducing Sapphiron the Wychlord's health to 30% will shatter his body, scattering Sapphiron's bones across the chamber and starting Phase Three.

Phase Three

When Sapphiron's health has been reduced to 30%, his bone body explodes, revealing the Wychlord's true form as a being of pure arcane energy. The Wychlord will use all of his Phase Three abilities to attack while conjuring Dragonbone Constructs to aid him. The encounter will end when the Wychlord's health is reduced to 0.

  • Any Wych Way - Slay 5 Animated Dragonbone Constructs and then slay Sapphiron the Wychlord.
