The Netherhollow is the bright, beating heart of the Netherglades. It overflows with life energy, but is in danger of being defiled by the Burning Legion.

Dungeon Journal

With the heart of the Netherglades is a nexus of primal nature energies, the Netherhollow. This fountain of life has been responsible for preserving the ecosystem of the glades and the inhabitants of the broken world, holding back the devouring entropy of the Void. But now the nexus' power is beginning to fade, leached away by an unknown enemy. Deep within the Netherhollow, adventurers must discover the cause of the fading energy and stop it before the land is consumed by darkness.

Background

While Verdanis is the avatar of the Netherglades natural energies, the Netherhollow is their literal physical heart. The great trees in this enchanted grove stretch their roots out far and deep, entwining them along the length and breadth of the entire Netherglades, a living network that acts to hold back the entropic hunger of the Void. The fel pollution of the demons threatens to poison this living heart, spreading the fel corruption throughout the entire region. This would mean catastrophe for the Netherglades.

Storyline and Encounters

The demonic servants of the dreadlords have cut a swath of destruction through the Netherglades, devouring the energy of the land to fuel their infernal machinery. The fel pollution of the dark engines has spread madness and death through the glades. Now, the demons are poised to rip out the Netherglades very heart. If their march towards the Netherhollow isn't stopped, the entire region will become corrupted, a demon forest spawning only monsters and horrors, ultimately easy prey for the encroaching Void.

Xala'Thustra

  • Xala'Thustra yells: Biting, breaking, hacking, burning! Destroyers and usurpers! Crawling things! Leave off gnawing on my arms, my legs!

Once a guardian of the Netherhollow, this mound of living plantlife has been struck deep with fel pollution, which is driving it to madness. The only option is to destroy the once-proud defender of nature, before it destroys the very thing it was born to protect.

Grubbux the Grove-Singer

  • Grubbux yells: The green screams, and burns! Rats and spiders, howls and shrieking! But there is a new green... heh ahah, yes, a new green! Bright and burning! Burns all things!

Many boggruk lived in the Netherhollow, tending it and ensuring that the life energy of the glades flowed pure and strong. The fel corruption has affected them most profoundly, twisting them into demonhood. Their former archdruid, Grubbux the Grove-Singer, has become a bloated abomination, his twisted body mutated and seething with fel poison. His torment must be ended.

Devastis, Shadowdread Enforcer

  • Devastis yells: Finally! Something to kill besides plants!

One of the brutal vethrezim, the enforcers of the dreadlords. He commands the demon force that has burned its way into the Netherhollow. Having had only creatures of leaf and vine to destroy, Devastis is eager to turn his fel-forged battle-axe upon mortals of flesh and blood.

Foulspawn, Corrupted Kin of Verdanis

  • Foulspawn yells: The burning poison commands me... It feeds on ruin, and twists all things to chaos. All things.

The spawn of Verdanis, a nature giant corrupted by the dreadlord Detheroc. The spiteful nathrezim unleashes the corrupted giant upon the Netherhollow as a parting gesture before retreating. The rampaging monster will do what the demons could not and bring death to the Netherglades - there is no choice but to destroy it.

With Foulspawn destroyed and the demons driven off, the Netherglades are finally safe. Verdanis and his servants can begin the healing process and cleanse the region of the fel pollution, but it will be slow and difficult work, and all for nought if the demons return in force. Verdanis informs the adventurers that the demons can from the north, from beyond the Netherglades, having entered the Voidlands on another worldshard. It is there that the source of the invasion must be stopped, of the defeat of the demons here will mean nothing.
