The Halls of Nightmare are a dungeon in the Thanacross Wastes. Once a Titan facility where Keeper Freya first bound the Wild Gods to the Emerald Dream, it has long been corrupted by the Nightmare. Now, the Nightmare's servants are attempting to create a wicked Wild God in the image of their dark master, a mighty demigod weapon that they will unleash upon the Dream.
Dungeon Journal
Formerly the Halls of Life, a structure of Titan making, built by Titanforged loyal to Keeper Freya. The facility was originally used by Keeper Freya to bind the spirits of her beloved creations, the Wild Gods, to the Emerald Dream itself, ensuring their immortality and maintaining the stability of Azeroth's natural ecosystem and nascent worldsoul. However, with the encroaching corruption of the Nightmare the facility has crumbled into ruin, its purpose lost. Unwaking terrors infest the darkened halls, as the servants of the Old God N'Zoth reshape the structure to birth even greater horrors.
Storyline and Encounters
After the eagle wild god, Shaharroth of the Sun, was felled in the Shimmerwyld by agents of the Nightmare, the majestic being's body was transported through the dark conduits of the Nightmare itself to the Thanacross Wastes, and into the Halls of Nightmare. The Titan-made structure was once used by Keeper Freya to bind her beloved Wild Gods to the Emerald Dream, allowing them to be reborn there even after their demise. The Nightmare has polluted this once-sacred place, and now its agents intend to use the corrupted power there to resurrect Shaharroth as a Dark Ancient, beings that are twisted reflections of the Wild Gods and utterly devoted to the agenda of the Nightmare Lord.
Farro Dreambane, Druid of the Black Talon
- Farro Dreambane yells: The power of the Nightmare surpasses all physical bounds, all laws of nature! That power must now flow to Shaharroth, and I shall be the conduit!
- Farro Dreambane yells: Now, witness the power that I have been granted!
Once, the druid known as Farro Dreambough was one of the most ardent defenders of the Emerald Dream, a wise and experienced druid of the talon with unmatched mastery over the avian animal form. But the deeper one's connection with the Dream, the greater their vulnerability to the crawling corruption of the Nightmare, and Farro is no exception. Farro was lured to the Halls of Nightmare by the presence of Shaharroth's body within the corrupted halls, for the druid had once counted the noble Wild God as a true friend. Now the Nightmare has twisted him into a fiend that desires Shaharroth's resurrection as a Dark Ancient.
Morphea, Keeper of Dreams
- Morphea yells: Once I served the cause of balance. Now I see that in the deepest darkness there is a freedom, a power, rewarding beyond all paltry notions of loyalty or sanity!
- Morphea yells: The power that commands me flows from a place beyond your comprehension! N'Zoth is as far beyond me as I am beyond you!
- Morphea yells: Come! I have such dreams to grant you!
One of the Titanforged, Morphea was charged by Freya to watch over the Halls of Life, but with the Nightmare infesting her home the Keeper of Dreams has fallen into darkness. Rendered insane by the corruption of N'Zoth, Morphea is beyond the reach of reason or purifying magic. Only a final end can free her from the grip of the Nightmare.
Phlebeton, the Dream Devourer
- Phlebeton yells: The journey has been long. I am in need of nourishment. Step forwards, morsel. I will feast on all that you are, and the ragged scraps of your essence I shall cast onto the shores of Narakaas.
A hideous n'raqi abomination, spawned from the darkness of the Nightmare itself. Phlebeton's physical form is still unstable, but it will not be long before the Void-born horror will be able to complete its incarnation and carry out the will of N'Zoth.
Nightmare Invoker Darcath
- Nightmare Invoker Darcath yells: The Nightmare will not be denied! The Wild God shall rise again, as our agent, our herald of destruction! Your lives shall be fuel for the fires of his dark rebirth!
A disciple of Xavius, Darcath was charged by the lord of the satyr to transport the fallen corpse of the eagle demigod, Shaharroth, to the Halls of Nightmare as part of a dark ritual to transform the fallen Wild God into a Dark Ancient. Darcath is a true believer in N'Zoth and will stop at nothing to carry out his mission.
Shaharroth, the Dark Ancient
- Nightmare Invoker Darcath yells: I... I will not fail! If it takes my sacrifice, then so be it! For the dark master! For N'Zoth! Now, witness the birth of a god!
- Shaharroth, the Dark Ancient yells: I rise! I RIIIISE!
- Shaharroth, the Dark Ancient yells: I will blacken the skies! Plunge all into darkness! Into Nightmare! I AM YOUR DOOM!!
Shaharroth, once a noble Wild God who dwelt in the Shimmerwyld, was laid low by corrupted pawns of the Nightmare. The mighty creature was brought to the Halls of Nightmare, and the black essence of the Nightmare poured into his broken form, causing him to rise again as a Dark Ancient. Still weak from his dark rebirth, Shaharroth is vulnerable. If he is not slain, his dark power will blacken the skies of the Dream and usher in the victory of the Nightmare.
