Lord Gathios Dawncrusher was the childhood friend of Grand Blood-Lord Akairos. He went off to fight in the first war and never returned home to Quel'thalas. Eventually he made his way to the outlands with Kael'thas, before eventually ascending to the Illidari council. He offered Akairos positions in the illidari after hearing tales of his conquests and continues to mentor him and be his friend to this day.
Since the death of Illidan Stormrage Gathios has taken over command of the Illidari.
His power
Lord Gathios is one of the most powerful beings to walk Outland. Gathios has done what many would consider impossible, he has transcended the power of the searing light and evolved beyond a need for a source. He has become an unknown type of warrior, though nicknamed a Fel-Paladin by Grand Blood-Lord Akairos. This is why Lord Gathios has left the ruling of the Illidari to his council, his power is to be kept secret from anyone who might give away any information to any faction outside the Illidari. Anybody who learned of his secret outside the council is immediately killed. Deathlord Varion is the only one not killed because Gathios saw the use for him and the benefit the Illidari would gain from his power and armies.
What is he?
Lord Gathios Gathios himself is unable to define exactly what his power is. He thinks it as somewhat of a concept rather then a channelable power. He is someone who has mastered and found a balance between light and the desire for power. The classification of spell he uses is called Divine. Not the type of Divine as in gods or deities, but instead a type of magic that performs devastating effects against beings of all alignments and magical types. Lord Gathios has demonstrated his powers in combat only to what could be suspected as a limited degree, the extent of his powers is unknown. In combat he has demonstrated the ability to cause great harm to living beings and structures, fill living tissue with power till they explode in a bomb-like fashion, and generate waves of force. The extend of his power is unknown.
Special Equipment
Lord Gathios wields the Halberd of Desolation, a weapon formerly guarded by High Warlord Naj'entus. Fortunately the invading armies missed it during the siege of the Black Temple. The spear allows Gathios to deceive someone into thinking s/he is all alone, his armies gone, his friends lost, and alone in the universe, their mind assaulted with torture till Gathios sees fit to cease.
