Easy Way to Dual Box

It's possible to open a second copy of WoW by using the command "open -n /Applications/World\ of\ Warcraft/World\ of\ Warcraft.app". Is there any reason this method isn't included? It seems much easier and less "hacky" than the other solutions. Amfr (talk) 14:01, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Mac Guilds

There is a Mac-user guild named the The Reservoir Dogcows. They seem to be a big guild, so I would be surprised if they were all or mostly Mac users, but it's possible.

Yes I heard of them a long time ago, and yes they are all mac-users, or at least have been / would be if they had enough money to get a mac / play on both macs and PCs - I have some friends in there

Stub location

Well, I prefer the stub temp at the top if the article has almost no content and is merely a placeholder until somebody knowledgeable comes along and fills it out a *LOT* - because it draws attention to the fact that it needs to be expanded. Wherever there is more info, though, for instance an almost-complete article, I like it at the bottom so the readers can access the info they need even though some ares are incomplete. You are right, there needs to be a policy on this - i'll add it to my to-do list... a WoWWiki:Stub policy page...
Anyway, for this article, I think it fits in the first category and needs to be at the top. I won't move it again, but if you read this and change your mind, then please move it back to the top (-:

Video Capture

Well, I tried the video capture the other day. The good news is that it was easy to use. The bad news is that it crippled my fps while it was recording. I went from about 15 fps to 2! I think my mac is slightly below the recommended spec for video recording though- it's like 4 years old...

This page needs help, badly. I just updated all the Video Capture stuff, and I'm fairly retarded when it comes to technical stuff.

Dual-boxing on one mac

I don't quite understand why all of that file manipulation is needed. On 10.5 you are able to go to the World of Warcraft.app's context menu, select Show Package Contents, then run Contents/MacOS/World of Warcraft as many times as you want. The only downside is that it runs from the terminal (which is a plus to me). I also use this script to run wow.

The app is stored on a different partition because wow doesn't install to case-sensitive drives. -console is there because I like to see the console. Would anyone want to test to see if it works on older macs? Sixcorners (talk) 08:37, September 24, 2009 (UTC)


I use Dual-boxing for my development environment, WoW (+ Launcher) is rsync'ed on launch, almost all folders are just symlink'ed, the account sub-folder of WTF is also linked, so I have the same settings but the global settings (e.g. windowed) is different. In the Interface/Addons folder all Addond except blizzards and those in development are also symlinked to my regumlar install - which keeps them automatically up-to-date. talk

PowerPC No Longer Supported

Shortly before the release of Cataclysm a patch will be released in which PowerPC processor based Macs will no longer be supported. This update indicates the removal of PowerPC support from World of Warcraft. Attempting to run the game after the update will bring up a message stating the hardware is no longer supported, and the game will not run.

You can click on the Apple in the top left corner and click "About This Mac". This will show what kind of processor you have. If you have an Intel processor then your computer is going to be supported after the patch. If you have a PowerPC processor then you are not going to be able to play. PowerPC No Longer Supported

Screenshot cvar Updates

Have gotten an update from Machkhan , US Mac Tech support agent. He consulted with the mac developers to confirm a couple of details about the screenshot cvars for Mac :

  • .tga is not a supported format for screenshots on Macs. This is due to the removal of the QuickTime APIs that was used for this.
  • The screenshotQuality cvar is not supported on Mac.
