Split

'Spirit Beasts' are both a lore creature type and a WoW creature type. While the WoW type seems to be a subtype of the greater concept, they are all the glowing cat things AFAIK. I feel this page needs cleanup or at least a stub of some kind.--SWM2448 18:15, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Different Kinds?

Right now there only seems to be one kind of Spirit Beast, which looks like a cat, and has the cat ability (Prowl) in addition to the special Spirit Beast ability (Spirit Strike). Does this mean that if there will be spirit beasts corresponding to other kinds of animals, will those have that animal's special ability coupled with Spirit Strike (Furious Howl/Spirit Strike for wolf, Swipe/Spirit Strike for bear, etc)? To follow up on this, a simple question: does Skoll have Prowl? INV Misc Orb 04.pngXavius, the Satyr Lord 23:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Source

I don't have either, but can someone confirm this change? Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:48, November 2, 2009 (UTC)

I've confirmed, the source is indeed in the HPG. Khymerion is correct. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 05:57, November 2, 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect name

Soo-holu is NOT tamable. The correct name is Skarr. You turn into Soo-holu when you're doing one of the Oracles dailies from Sholazar. It's the same model, but a different beastie entirely. Wowpedia apparently does not have a page for him yet. Wowhead's is at Skarr. (Not Skarr the Broken) --Azaram (talk) 07:32, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Skarr isnt a spirit beast. I dont think they were confusing the two. That being said im not sure why sooholu is even on this page. ANd you are right we need a Skarr page.Warthok (talk) 07:43, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Let us be clear... the named spirit beast section is not a list of tamable beasts, but a list of named or known spirit beasts. Soo-holu is believed to be a spirit beast and that is why he's there. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 08:24, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
No I understand that perfectly. My doubts about Soo-holu have nothing to do with him not being tamable, they are because I've searched quest text and i cant find anything to refer to him as a spirit beast. Unless someone has found something i've missed i think calling him a "spirit beast" for those reasons is quite a bit of a reach. If not i would push for removal. On that note i'm not entirely sure about Harkoa. Would a Loa also be catagorized under it's respective animal species. I mean do we list Akali under Rhinos?, etc...Warthok (talk) 10:00, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Aren't Loas ancient guardians? So the question is: Should Malorne be listed under "stags" and Tortolla under turtles?--LemonBaby (talk) 12:06, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Skarr

Before starting an edit war: If Skarr is romoved from the list, Soo-holu should be too. Since both share the same model. --LemonBaby (talk) 08:34, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Sharing the same model doesn't mean a whole lot now-a-days with Blizzard. Soo-hulu is a beast, and a spirit left by the Titans. A spirit beast. Skarr is tagged as a cat, although he appears to be an elemental cat. And Blackmaw is flagged as an elemental. You guess is as good as mine, as how all three should be handled, but Skarr is tamable as a cat and should not be listed as a spirit beast. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! Ok, didn't know that. Thx for sharing! --LemonBaby (talk) 08:43, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
I think we should only leave here things that are in the tameable spirit beast family, to avoid confusion, and put everything that isn't, but might be in a speculation section. --Ashbear160 (talk) 11:30, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, 'tamable' is why I was here. Was trying to see if there was a listing for the spawn points. --Azaram (talk) 11:45, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
So nobody has problems with me doing that?--Ashbear160 (talk) 12:15, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
This page is about the type of creature, the hunter pet family is only a subsection of both the creature type and the page, see #As a hunter pet. I added notes to the members of the creature type that are not tameable. ~ Nathanyel (talk) 12:35, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, however i would argue at the time the nine tamable creatures are coincidently also the only confirmed spirit beasts. Soo-hulu is some type of titanic protector, maybe a construct, but no where is he ever called a spirit beast. Harkoa is a loa, not a spirit beast nor does she appear to be the loa of spirit beasts as she is constantly refered to as a snow leopard loa. Her mate is a spirit beast yes, that might come with being the mate of a loa, but Harkoa from looking at the questline in Zul'Drak is never called one. Shes a diety more or less. And Tyrande's owl shares a model with Ban'thalos but thats it, and as Coobra pointed out sharing the same model nowadays means little. Many many mobs share models but are classified as different types of creatures, just see his example of Blackmaw/Skarr/Soo-Holu. Personally I would simply remove those three, but maybe a good compromise would be putting them in a speculation section. Or at least Harkoa and Dori'thur, I still dont understand what buisness soo-hulo even has on this page.Warthok (talk) 17:57, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Soo-holu, Skarr and Blackmaw

I think none of these are spirit beasts, Skarr (the only one that's tameable)is in the Cat Family and Soo-holu is never called neither a spirit or a beast, but rather a protector left by the old ones.

A new name should be figured for them too, since in MoP there are also Jade Tigers(which are sculpted) that share the same model (different skin) it only perpetuates the idea that these guys are constructs or at least represent some sort of stone cat and not a spirit beast(model name/skin name would be prefered).

My question is:Is there even any basis for calling any of these guys a spirit beast?--Ashbear160 (talk) 02:38, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
