Focused rage

Does focused rage affect this ability?

"More shield block value makes this the primary threat building attack in the warrior arsenal. " Seriously? With a 6 second cooldown? KelvinFrost 05:31, 25 April 2007 (EDT)

"You generate more threat per point of rage with this ability than with sunder armor even with only a moderate amount of shield block value."

This is vague - at exactly how much 'Block' does this become more efficient than Sunder? KelvinFrost 10:56, 2 May 2007 (EDT)

Hypothetically if you had no block value at all max rank shield slam generates more aggro than sunder armor and with a modest amount of block value it will generate a lot more instant threat than sunder armor. The amount of block value required for Shield Slam to be more threat/rage efficient than Sunder Armor is 91.33 however you must take into account that using Sunder Armor after 5 are already used is unnecessary and Shield Slam will generate a lot more aggro. Generally when tanking end game one will use Shield Slam every time it is off the cooldown because it is the single highest aggro generating ability. Threat/rage efficiency almost never factors into end game tanking as rage is almost never the limiting factor. It is often the global cooldown and cooldown of Shield Slam and Revenge that are the limiting factors in speed of aggro generation. Sotallytober 16:22, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Sotallytober

Is there a formula yet for Threat as a function of shield block value? Also, how does Devastate applied on top of 5 stacked Sunder Armors compare as a threat generator next to Shield Slam? --Wamarler 22:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

There are numbers behind Shield Slam & Sunder/Devastate, including the actual Devastate formula from 2.3, but I don't recall them as I'm not currently playing. They are there, though & the general concept is that Shield Slam is for burst agro while working up to the 5th Sunder using Devastate will generate higher TPS in the same length of time. You can find the full formulas over at TankSpot, look up Armstrong's Devastate FAQ

I made the following change to the Wiki page: "As of 3.3.2, the threat for Shield Slam can be calculated as: (((Damage Done + Static Threat) * 1.3) * Stance Modifier)". I can personally verify the truth of this. Take a threat macro, check your threat before and after a Shield Slam. Divide your threat after by your current stance's modifier, then by 1.3 then subtract the damage done and you will always get 770. Pingzing (talk) 23:06, February 26, 2010 (UTC)PingZing

hardest hitting attack?

The article states that shield slam is the hardest hitting attack for a protection warrior. I have found that revenge does more damage. But my warrior is only level 60. Does shield slam surpass revenge at higher levels? --Cachel (talk) 18:41, May 17, 2010 (UTC)
