Merge

Basic account security should be merged into this guide. This guide also needs alot more useful [Blizzard] links and links to other WoWWiki articles, but that is a separate topic. --Gengar orange 22x22.pngBeware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:03 PM PST 13 Apr 2009

I am volunteering to bring this page up to date. So far I have revised the introduction section and added references and a reference section to sources of information for the article. It may take me most of this week (sorry I do like to PLAY WoW occasionally too!). Feel free to edit my edits, but I will be making further changes, including the structure of the page (probably following the list of advice in the new introduction), as well as bringing the content up to date and adding more references. The last thing I will work on is ensuring it is "wikified" - at this time I think getting an accurate, informed and readable article is more important than whether it "looks" right.

  • Help needed: a pointer to the correct template to use would be much appreciated!
  • Query: would the sub-topics be better as separate pages (given some people may search for terms such as "anti-virus") or should the security advice all be on one page?
  • Query: I run WoW on Vista and XP. Does anyone know about security issues on Linux or Macs or good links to post?

  • Updated the section on "Updating your computer" Tequima (talk) 08:20, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Added section on Blizzard Updates Tequima (talk) 11:19, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Added section on security software. I did consider adding links to anti-virus and firewalls, but the wikipedia section is more appropriate for this as what is "best" changes regularly. I will add a note that | BitDefender GameSafe gets a good gamer review ... later as I want to play. (I know its keeping me up to date whilst on "gardening leave" but there's only so much I want to do that's work related right now) Tequima (talk) 12:11, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

References to add. These are useful things to add from further research, but probably in later/new sections. I will edit them out of talk as I add them:

    • Final merge complete with up-to-date links to Blizzard and Battlenet contact pages for US and EU and simple link to Chinese, Korean & Taiwanese main sites (don't know how to navigate any further to get the exact page as I don't read any of these languages) Tequima (talk)

First pass complete

  • Restructured the article
  • Text wikified
  • Links updated

I would appreciate someone taking a look at this and suggesting a template to use to finalise the formatting Tequima (talk) 16:41, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Second Pass

Starting the merge with Basic Account Security

  • Passwords - done
  • Email - done
  • Account Sharing
  • eMails from "Blizzard"
  • External links

Passwords and casing

I edited the page and password example a little to point out better that WoW account passwords are case-insensitive, and I removed the note at the bottom that just mentioned that "some passwords" are case-insensitive, as WoW accounts were the main point of the article I believe(?) wT (talk) 15:53, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
