Talk:Flash of Light

From Warcraft Wiki

I'm not sure why but wowhead, thottbot, and allakhazam all say flash of light heals for 448-502, but the tooltip in game says 458-513. Even with no talents and no armor on it says 458-513, so I changed the wiki entry to reflect that.

  • This is because when you learn the spell at level 66, your base healing is 448 to 502. For the first few levels after you learn the spell, the base increases, and at level 70 it is 458 to 513. For example, Flash of Light Rank 1 heals 67 to 77 at level 70, despite having learned it level 20 when it was 62 to 72. So, WoWHead, Thottbot, and Allakhazam are all correct, but only for the level the spell is trained at. I don't know if there is a formula to this or if it's arbitrary, but it *is* important, because the last level a spell increases in base value affects +healing for downranked spells. The most useless heal

Well the heading says it all... I think this is the most useless heal in the game (and everyone takes paladins for healers for what ?? - holy light, flash of light and holy shock (with it's 30 sec cd)) i am not buying this. Shaman's weakest heals are ten thousand times better than the ones for paladins. Can anyone explain to my as to why this spell is so widely used? It has a low cast time or what (1,5 secs). I don't see how can this spell get any better without any crazy healing gear and that still wouldn't be enough to top a shaman (if he is on restoration). Someone care to explain, because i am extremely puzzled :/ ! (and don't try to give me the "divine favor" critical - it's ten times better to get a critical from holy light). Also lesser healing wave's cast time is 1,5 secs as well and it heals far more !!! I simply can't get it ....

Combine this with Blessing of Light on target, Blessing of Wisdom on yourself, and a full range of holy talents, and you can effectively spam flash of light around various targets for next to no mana cost. It's lovely. ---- Varghedin.jpg Varghedin  talk / contribs 18:40, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
It is because critical Holy Light in 90% cases is overheal. Besides, Flash of Light has one of the largest HpM (Healing per Mana) stat. A paladin under the Blessing of Wisdom can spam FoL for a really long time, casting Holy Light once a 15 secs for Lights Grace proc. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Unlogic (talk · contr).

Hmm.... Well those things are nice and i admit holy light overheals a lot, but maybe i wrote the heading wrong. Perhaps i should have called it "the most useless PvP heal". Fact is without the blessing of light and the holy talents this heal has the smallest heal amount of all spells isn't that true ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Grievous (talk · contr).

Well, as I'm not a PvPer, I'm not sure of the theory for that, though I'd imagine burst healing would come more in handy in PvP, so yes, I suppose the mana efficiency from Flash of Light isn't as useful as in most PvE fights, which can last up to ten minutes or more. However, it still has its purposes. Like in most PvE cases, in PvP it can provide a string of mana efficient heals until a big heal is needed (HL). Again, I do not PvP and know little about it, so don't trust my words. --CommonsNat (talk) 21:26, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Removed oudated information

I have gone ahead and removed quite a bit of outdated information from this page:

  • Blessing of Light is no longer in the game, having been incorporated into all existing paladin healing spells. Thus, the number of suggestions regarding using BoL to improve Flash of Light were removed.
  • The formula that advises people of how spamming Flash of Light was superior to Holy Light for mana efficiency is somewhat made moot by the significant number of changes made to paladin healing. For instance, changes to Blessing of Light and to the spellpower coefficients made the formula outdated. Also nowadays it is very difficult to advise a holy paladin that they should be spamming one sort of healing spell or another, because of the fact that each heal depends largely on what content you are running, who you are running with, what mobs or bosses you are facing, etc. Therefore, I have opted to remove this information entirely.
  • I also adjusted the spellpower coefficient for Flash of Light to its new updated values. If a link is necessary it will be provided.
