Location

It was pointed out in a Discord discussion that Ner'zhul's wording and the context seem contradicting, which makes things ambiguous. His and his clan's entire storyline is about the Void and using the Void's power, at the end of which he reaches a Void-looking place, which is called the "Edge of Reality".

So far so good- however, one of his voicelines calls it the "Shadow Lands" (and he references death a couple times, but then again he is a necromancer), so it was immediately assumed that he was referring to the Shadowlands, despite the whole storyline and context.

But it sounds like it is highly possible that he meant "Shadow Lands" as in Chronicle's and other previously used definitions of "shadow" meaning "void". So these 'lands of shadow' would actually be referring to the Void, which matches the rest of the storyline- and not the actual Shadowlands (which have nothing to do with literal shadow AKA void).

To note, there are also multiple Void-looking portals scattered around Draenor, that lead to the Edge of Reality, where you can loot the "Voidtalon of the Dark Star". Furthermore, if you forget to loot it, you will receive a unique message from Khadgar stating "I believe you misplaced this in the void. Be more careful next time, <name>."

Therefore I think the current lead sentence ("The Edge of Reality is a location within the Shadowlands") is incorrect, or at least is more speculative than it should be. To me it looks like it should be changed to say that it is located within (or near) the Void, not the Shadowlands.

But given the ambiguity raised by Ner'zhul's wording (not unlike other things in WoD such as the Arakkoa's "realm of shadows"- which is clearly Void, specially with the High arrakkoa using the Light), I would also be fine with rewording the sentence so that it doesn't affirm either possibility, and adding a Speculation section that takes care of this instead. Personally, I would change it something ambiguous like "The Edge of Reality is an otherworldly location to which Ner'zhul retreats during his final stand [...] He refers to it as 'the realm of death itself'" and then note the contradictions under Speculation. -- DeludedTroll (talk • contribs) 21:22, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Also  [40H] Shadowy Secrets quest reward  [Void Totem] toy has it "weaken the barrier between this world and the Twisting Nether" showing the same sky as in the Edge of Reality, so it can also be that 3rd realm. The sky box is reused for taming Gara in the "void realm". So maybe add those for the notes and Speculation sections. Mrforesttroll (talk) 21:59, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
