I've also been thinking about this lately. His weapons, according to very ancient recordings from thottbot, are named the Twin Blades of Azzinoth. Azzinoth then would have to be a person from who Illidan received said blades (voluntarily or in-), or a place, in the two most common meanings.

I've heard speculation that they come from a doomguard named Azzinoth -- however, this is never mentioned in the War of the Ancients trilogy. In fact, I'm greatly disappointed that Mr. Knaak either forgot to write about how Illidan received his trade-mark weapons or decided he didn't have the time/whatever. They are very iconical and have been with Illidan since before the time of his breaking out during the Third War, so they had to have been received during the War of the Ancients.

...then again, there's the whole dealio with alternate timelines, which could still present the possibility of Illidan getting the blades if nothing that we read about in War of the Ancients actually happened the way it did (though we know the world experienced SOME changes, such as the not-as-extinct extinction of Malygos's flight).

Warglaives?

I'm confused, Doom guard is BIG, and as a Commander, Azzinoth is BIGGER(he's probably >9feet/2.7meters) than normal Doomguard. How could he battle using two small, weird semi-circle Warglaives? Charge while seatting?--Malygos 14:06, 4 January 2007 (EST)

Assuming that Azzinoth follows that general convention. Bear in mind that the blades themselves are large enough to be slightly out of proportion with a densly muscular night elf, so, if we take into account that Illidan is bigger than the average kaldorei, and Azzinoth was slightly smaller than the average Doomguard commander, the size fits fairy well.--Ragestorm (talk · contr) 14:13, 4 January 2007 (EST)

Pit lord or doomguard?

To clarify

Azzinoth doesn't physically appear in any source... He's only mentioned in refrence to the history of blades that once belonged to him (such as the unreleased weaspon in World of Warcraft files), or history behind the weapon given in the RPG, which also state they once belonged to Azzinoth.Baggins 23:58, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Illidan and the Glaives

What weapons did Illidan use before the Warglaives. The style of the weapon of Azzinoth's Blades weren't used by demon hunters until Illidan used them. Mr.X8 00:05, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

He was a spellcaster, so nothing really (Perhaps a staff but one was never mentioned). He was also the first demon hunter anyway, so whatever he did was first.--SWM2448 00:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Azzinoth and Illidan in Hearthstone

I believe that we should add Azzinoth's story in a Hearthstone section, as it is the only official, though non-canon, source of his battle with Illidan that we have. If Arthas and Frostmourne's trivia sections are allowed to be filled with non-canon appearances in non-Blizzard products, surely we can include Azzinoth's similarly non-canon, yet relevant, appearances in an actual Blizzard game.--User:Malcior/Sig 5:04, 2 May 2020.
